Overview

egovframe-scaffold-mcp exposes eGovFrame project creation, component assembly, migration, dependency review, security checks, SBOM handling, and deployment preparation through MCP. It can download official templates, apply project metadata and database settings, assemble cataloged components, and preserve backups and manifests during write operations. Read-only diagnostics cover project structure, migration readiness, dependencies, network access, and installed components. Reach for it when an AI coding client or CI workflow needs repeatable eGovFrame scaffolding, modernization, supply-chain checks, or delivery artifacts.

Use cases

  • Create an eGovFrame project from an official template
  • Assemble database-backed common components into an existing project
  • Assess and rehearse a 3.x or 4.x migration to 5.x
  • Generate SBOM, security, and delivery artifacts
  • Prepare Docker, Compose, and Kubernetes deployment files

Key features

  • Official eGovFrame template scaffolding
  • Manifest-aware component assembly and removal
  • 5.x migration diagnosis and transactional application
  • Maven and Gradle dependency baseline checks
  • CycloneDX and SPDX SBOM generation
  • Secure-coding, delivery, and deployment tooling

How Egovframe Scaffold MCP works

What egovframe-scaffold-mcp does

egovframe-scaffold-mcp provides MCP tools for working with Korean e-Government Standard Framework projects, commonly called eGovFrame. It can enumerate official project templates, create a project from a selected template, and apply a project name, group ID, and database type. New projects can also have their 5.x parent and runtime versions aligned after creation.

Component tools use a catalog of eGovFrame common components. They support searching and listing available components, copying selected source files, mappers, JSPs, and optional database scripts into an existing project, and removing previously assembled files using the installation manifest. An AI RAG layer based on the official egovframe-ai-rag sample can also be added to a Boot project.

How it works

The server runs over MCP for compatible AI clients and can also be invoked through the npm package’s CLI. A typical workflow starts with template selection or project diagnosis, continues with component assembly or migration planning, and ends with validation, security review, SBOM generation, deployment files, or a delivery package.

Most operations that write files provide a dry-run mode. Component installation rejects conflicts before writing, while removal, migration, reassembly, and upgrades use manifests, backups, hashes, or transaction-style rollback protections. Migration separates automatically replaceable items from changes that require manual code work. It can preview or apply changes, preserve backups, and compile the result when verification is requested.

Setup and configuration

Node.js 22 or newer is required. The package can be launched without a global installation through npx:

Terminal
npx -y egovframe-scaffold-mcp

For an MCP client, configure a stdio server with the command npx and arguments -y egovframe-scaffold-mcp. The package is documented for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and VS Code with Copilot. The same package provides CLI operations for assessment, dependency checks, and secure-coding scans.

Useful environment settings include EGOVFRAME_LANG for Korean or English output, EGOVFRAME_ALLOWED_ROOTS to restrict accessible directories, EGOVFRAME_CACHE_DIR for component archives and tag mirrors, and EGOVFRAME_MAVEN_MIRROR for an internal Maven proxy. EGOVFRAME_OFFLINE_BUNDLE points to a prepared bundle for closed-network environments. Proxy-based downloads can use HTTPS_PROXY with NODE_USE_ENV_PROXY=1.

Tools and capabilities

  • Create projects from official eGovFrame templates and optionally adjust 5.x parent and runtime versions.
  • Search, install, validate, remove, upgrade, and reassemble cataloged common components.
  • Diagnose and rehearse 3.x or 4.x migrations to 5.x, including Jakarta EE 9+, Spring 6, and Java 17 changes.
  • Compare Maven or Gradle dependencies with eGovFrame, Spring Boot BOM, and RTE baselines; optionally query OSV.
  • Generate and inspect CycloneDX or SPDX SBOMs, including baseline comparisons and CycloneDX VEX drafts.
  • Detect selected secure-coding patterns and apply limited automated fixes with SARIF output support.
  • Produce deployment files, offline bundles, delivery packages, project reports, and AI-oriented AGENTS.md files.

Limitations and notes

The project is a community implementation and is not an official eGovFrame distribution. Pattern-based secure-coding checks are intended as diagnostic assistance rather than a replacement for an accredited review. Migration leaves manual code changes for developers, and component reassembly preserves diffs but does not automatically reapply every patch. Maven dependency JARs are not included in offline bundles; an institutional repository mirror is needed for those artifacts. Network-dependent operations may require access to GitHub, Maven, npm, or OSV hosts, unless suitable cached or bundled data is available.

Frequently Asked Questions about Egovframe Scaffold MCP

egovframe-scaffold-mcp is an MCP server that connects AI clients and CLI workflows to eGovFrame project tooling. Its main tools create projects from official templates, assemble common components, diagnose and apply 5.x migrations, check dependencies and security, generate SBOMs, and prepare deployment or delivery artifacts.

Run it with Node.js 22 or newer using `npx -y egovframe-scaffold-mcp`; no global installation is required. Add `npx` with `-y egovframe-scaffold-mcp` as a stdio server in the MCP client configuration, or invoke the package’s CLI commands from a project directory.

Yes, Cursor is named as a supported MCP client. Add the server to Cursor’s `.cursor/mcp.json` using `npx` as the command and `-y egovframe-scaffold-mcp` as its arguments, then use the exposed eGovFrame tools from the client.

Yes, it diagnoses and can apply machine-replaceable migration items for 3.x and 4.x projects. The process covers Maven coordinates, package names, Jakarta changes, XML configuration, and replaced libraries; manual items remain for developer review, while backups and a migration plan are retained.

Yes, prepare an offline bundle on an internet-connected machine and set `EGOVFRAME_OFFLINE_BUNDLE` to its location in the isolated environment. The bundle can contain OSV data, verified component archives, templates, and tag mirrors, but Maven dependency JARs still require an institutional repository mirror.
