We couldn’t confirm it starts correctly

The install command started, but didn't respond the way we expected when we tried to talk to it.

npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-duffel

initialize succeeded but no response to tools/list.

This is an experimental automated check and can have false negatives — missing environment variables, a slow cold install, etc. It doesn’t necessarily mean something’s wrong. Last checked 6d ago.

Duffel MCP — live flight search + pricing via the Duffel Flights API (duffel.com)

Part of Pipeworx — an MCP gateway connecting AI agents to 1855+ live data sources. This is an independent, unofficial integration — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream provider.

Tools

ToolDescription
duffel_flight_searchSearch flights (with pricing) from to on — returns the 5 cheapest real, bookable offers from the Duffel Flights API, each with total price, airline, and per-segment flight numbers/times. Pass return_date for a round trip. This is REAL flight inventory: use a Duffel test token (duffel_test_...) for sandbox results. Example: duffel_flight_search({ origin: "JFK", destination: "LHR", departure_date: "2026-08-15", passengers: 2, cabin_class: "economy", apiKey: "duffel_test..." })

Quick Start

Add to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.):

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "duffel": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/duffel/mcp"
    }
  }
}

What this endpoint actually serves

tools/list at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/duffel/mcp returns the tools in the table above plus the shared Pipeworx meta-tools — ask_pipeworx, discover_tools, search_within, remember/recall and the rest of the gateway-wide set. So the tool count you see is larger than this table: a single-pack endpoint currently lists roughly 30 shared tools alongside the pack's own. The connection's initialize response states its exact scope, and is the authoritative answer for a given day.

This is deliberate, not multiplexing by accident. The meta-tools are what let a scoped connection answer a question this pack does not cover — via ask_pipeworx, which routes across the whole catalog — without you adding a second MCP server. There is currently no way to mount a pack endpoint without them; if the extra schemas cost you more context than the routing is worth, connect to the full gateway once rather than to several pack endpoints.

Or connect to the full Pipeworx gateway to get every pack's tools listed directly, instead of just this one's:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pipeworx": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Both URLs reach the same gateway and the same 1855+ data sources. The only difference is which pack's tools are listed directly; ask_pipeworx reaches all of them from either one.

No MCP client? Call it over HTTP

This pack takes your own API key (_apiKey) — we don't front one for it, so there's no curl here that would run without it. Inspect any tool: GET https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/duffel_flight_search. Find one: POST https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/search_packs with {"query":"..."}.

Standalone (no gateway account)

This package also runs as a local stdio MCP server — no Pipeworx account, no gateway round-trip:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "duffel": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-duffel"]
    }
  }
}

Or run it directly to confirm it starts:

Terminal
npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-duffel

It speaks MCP over stdin/stdout and answers initialize/tools/list/tools/call for only this pack's tools — none of the shared meta-tools the gateway connection above adds. Same source, same tools, no ask_pipeworx routing.

Using with ask_pipeworx

Instead of calling tools directly, you can ask questions in plain English — this works on the pack endpoint above as well as on the full gateway:

Code
ask_pipeworx({ question: "your question about Duffel data" })

The gateway picks the right tool and fills the arguments automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions about Duffel

Duffel is an MCP server that provides live flight search and pricing through the Duffel Flights API. Its `duffel_flight_search` tool returns up to five cheapest real, bookable offers, including total price, airline, and segment flight details. It supports one-way and round-trip searches and can run through Pipeworx or locally.

Use the `duffel_flight_search` tool with an origin, destination, departure date, passenger count, and cabin class. You can also provide `return_date` for a round trip and `_apiKey` containing a Duffel API token. Results include priced flight offers and per-segment flight numbers and times.

Yes, the Duffel MCP server requires you to provide your own Duffel API key through `_apiKey`. Use a `duffel_test_...` token for sandbox results, as documented in the example search request.

Connect an MCP client to `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/duffel/mcp` using the server name `duffel`. The package can also run locally without a Pipeworx account with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-duffel`, using MCP over stdin and stdout.

The pack provides `duffel_flight_search` for flight searches with pricing through the Duffel Flights API. When connected through the Pipeworx gateway, the endpoint also lists shared Pipeworx meta-tools; the standalone package exposes only this pack's tools.
