A side-by-side look at the MCPg and PostgreSQL Performance (read Only) MCP servers: transport, auth, tools, quality signals, and the config to install either one in Claude, Cursor, Windsurf or VS Code.
Verdict: choose MCPg for databases work as a local process; choose PostgreSQL Performance (read Only) for databases over a hosted endpoint. You can also run both side by side in one mcpServers block.
MCPG_DATABASE_URL, MCPG_ACCESS_MODE.Rows where the two servers differ are marked.
