Derrick MCP server exposes B2B data enrichment through MCP-compatible clients. It can return work emails, phone numbers, company firmographics, technology stacks, hiring signals, and other actions supplied by the Derrick API. How Derrick works

What Derrick MCP server does

Derrick MCP server connects MCP-compatible AI clients to Derrick’s B2B data enrichment service. It supports requests such as finding work email addresses, enriching LinkedIn profiles, searching for companies, and retrieving business information. The available actions are not fixed entirely in the local package: the server loads additional tools from the Derrick API when it starts.

The server includes two tools regardless of the API-provided tool set:

  • derrick_configure stores the Derrick API key.
  • derrick_account reports account information and remaining credits.

The API can also provide enrichment related to phone numbers, company firmographics, technology stacks, and hiring signals. The exact set of dynamically loaded actions can change as Derrick adds or updates API capabilities.

How it works

The server runs locally over MCP’s stdio transport. An MCP client starts the Node.js package, and the process communicates with that client through standard input and output. At startup, it obtains the available actions from the Derrick API and exposes them to the client.

After connecting, you can provide the key through the configuration tool or set it in the process environment. When configured through the tool, the key is stored in ~/.derrick-mcp/.env and remains available for later sessions. The account tool can be used to inspect credits before making enrichment requests.

Setup and configuration

To run Derrick MCP server, use Node.js 22 or newer and a Derrick account with the Standard plan or above. The README identifies that plan as $20 per month and requires an API key obtained from the Derrick Google Sheets integration.

The package can be started with npx derrick-mcp. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and other MCP clients that support stdio can be configured to launch that command. For clients that accept environment variables, set DERRICK_API_KEY to avoid entering the key through derrick_configure.

If you use the configuration tool instead, connect the server and ask the client to configure Derrick with the key. The saved file is created under the current user’s home directory, so the credential persists across sessions on that machine.

Tools and capabilities

The Derrick MCP server has two local, always-available tools and a variable collection loaded from the service:

  • Save and persist a Derrick API key.
  • Check credits and account details.
  • Find work email addresses.
  • Enrich LinkedIn profiles.
  • Search company records.
  • Retrieve supported business enrichment such as phone data, firmographics, technology stacks, and hiring signals.

Because the remote API determines the additional tool set, clients can discover new Derrick actions without requiring a new local server release. Ask the connected AI client what Derrick can do to inspect the currently available operations.

Limitations and notes

Derrick MCP server requires Derrick credentials and an eligible paid account; it is not described as a credential-free or free-tier service. Enrichment requests depend on the credits and capabilities available through that Derrick account.

The documented client setup covers Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Cursor. Other clients must support MCP over stdio. Protect the API key whether it is stored in the local .env file or supplied through the environment, and follow Derrick’s product terms and privacy policy when processing business or contact data.
