What delta MCP server does

The delta MCP server connects AI agents to Delta Air Lines through browser automation. It covers the main stages of a flight workflow: finding itineraries, reviewing flight details, selecting flights and seats, adding bags or trip extras, and completing checkout. It also supports post-booking tasks such as retrieving reservations, changing or canceling bookings, checking in, obtaining boarding passes, and viewing flight status.

The server includes SkyMiles-related operations for checking an account balance, Medallion tier, and recent activity. Flight searches and flight-status lookups do not require a logged-in account. Other operations, including booking management, check-in, and SkyMiles access, depend on an authenticated Delta SkyMiles session.

How it works

Playwright drives a Chromium browser to interact with Delta’s website. The server returns JSON responses intended for parsing by an AI agent. Its browser behavior includes session cookies, a realistic user agent, locale and timezone handling, and randomized delays.

Authentication is performed interactively. Calling login returns a sign-in URL; the user opens that page, completes Delta authentication, and then calls status to confirm that the session is available. Cookies and session information are saved locally under ~/.striderlabs/delta/.

Purchases use a two-stage checkout flow. An initial checkout call provides a preview. The purchase is completed only when the request includes confirm: true, and that flag should be used only after the user has explicitly approved the displayed booking. Cancellation through manage_booking also requires confirmation on Delta’s website.

Setup and configuration

Install the package globally with npm and install the Chromium browser required by Playwright:

The server can be registered in Claude Desktop with the striderlabs-mcp-delta command, or launched through npx using @striderlabs/mcp-delta. No environment variables are required. Credentials are handled through the browser session rather than environment configuration.

The delta MCP server stores cookies at ~/.striderlabs/delta/cookies.json and session data at ~/.striderlabs/delta/session.json. Protect these files because they contain the persisted browser session for the Delta account.

  • Search flights by airports, dates, and passenger count, then inspect flight details.
  • Select outbound and return flights, review seat maps, choose seats, and add checked bags.
  • View upgrades, Wi-Fi passes, priority boarding, and other available trip extras.

  • Retrieve bookings by confirmation number and manage changes, cancellations, upgrades, or added bags.
  • Check in for eligible upcoming flights and retrieve digital boarding passes.
  • Query flight numbers for current status, gates, and delays.
  • Check SkyMiles balances, Medallion status, and recent account activity.

Limitations and notes

This server is specific to Delta Air Lines and relies on browser automation rather than a documented airline API. Check-in is available only when Delta makes it available, generally beginning 24 hours before departure. Authentication is not needed for flight search or flight status, but account-dependent functions require the interactive login process.
