What Data Galactica does
The Data Galactica MCP server connects an MCP client to a hosted dataset containing 15.5 million organisations and 30.6 million people across 252 countries. Each organisation receives a permanent DGC- identifier, while each person receives a DGP- identifier. The service can resolve supported external identifiers—including CIN, LLPIN, LEI, UK company numbers, SEC CIKs, and Wikidata Q-ids—to the corresponding record.
Its data supports company and person lookup, company verification, checks on people in roles, due-diligence work, hiring analysis, talent maps, and market research. Records include an overall grade and sourcing information for sections of the record. The dataset also contains ranked lists by industry, country, city, and function.
How it works
The Data Galactica MCP server is accessed remotely at https://api.datagalactica.com/mcp using the Streamable HTTP transport. There is no local package or self-hosted process described for this repository; the repository provides connection instructions, client configuration, and registry metadata for the hosted service.
After connection, an agent can call tools such as search, search_companies, search_people, get_company, get_person, and get_company_people. Verification and diligence tools include verify_company, check_person, check_identity, check_email, company_diligence, and person_diligence. Identifier resolution lets applications connect records that use different keys, but the documentation advises checking location and identifiers when names collide.
Setup and configuration
Add the MCP URL to a client that supports remote servers. Claude clients can add it as a custom connector; Claude Code can register it with claude mcp add --transport http. Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, and JSON-configured clients can use the server URL in an mcpServers entry. VS Code uses an HTTP server entry in .vscode/mcp.json, and Gemini CLI can install the repository as an extension.
Authentication uses OAuth 2.1 with the api scope, or an API key sent as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY. The README states that users can sign up with only an email address. New accounts receive ₹50 in free credit, followed by a charge of ₹0.16 per answered call from a prepaid wallet. Errors and not-found responses are free according to the provided pricing information.
Tools and capabilities
The 28 tools are grouped as follows:
- Search: general, company, people, city, and top-company searches.
- Records: company, person, contact, and company-people retrieval.
- Verification and diligence: company verification, identity and email checks, role checks, and diligence packs.
- Hiring and markets: hiring information, hire checks, talent maps, market research, and dataset information.
- Wallet: balance, top-up, and payment retrieval.
- Owner tools: identity, profile retrieval, proposed updates, notes, and contribution history.
Owner tools use OAuth and allow record owners to claim and maintain their profile through an agent, with changes reviewed.
Limitations and notes
The Data Galactica MCP server is a hosted service operated by Data Galactica, not software that this repository documents for local deployment. Use is governed by the provider’s linked terms and privacy policy. Data quality should be evaluated from the record grade, section-level sources, location, and identifiers rather than a matching name alone. The repository files themselves are released under the MIT licence, while service access has its own authentication and pricing terms.
