What CustomDomain™ MCP server does
CustomDomain™ MCP server exposes twelve domain-management tools to AI agents through a hosted MCP endpoint. It covers the path from finding a registration candidate to getting a connected domain ready for use. Agents can search availability and pricing, generate deterministic suggestions from keywords, place an authorized order, connect a domain already owned by a customer, and monitor the resulting connection.
The service also supports operational tasks after initial setup. It can configure email records from a server-side template, create permanent domain forwarding, reapply a connection that has drifted from its live state, disconnect a domain cleanly, and list an account’s connections for portfolio reconciliation. Connection checks cover DNS progress and certificate issuance, including whether the domain has reached HTTPS readiness.
How it works
The MCP client sends JSON-RPC requests over HTTPS to https://mcp.customdomain.ai/mcp. The hosted server forwards the credential to the CustomDomain control plane, which communicates with registrars, DNS providers, and the edge certificate system. The server has no datastore of its own.
DNS values are computed by the control plane from approved templates rather than supplied as arbitrary record arguments. This lets an agent request a domain connection or email setup without receiving a general-purpose record-writing operation. For providers with automatic support, the control plane can apply the required changes. For other providers, the tools return the authoritative records and a link for a person to apply them.
Setup and configuration
There is nothing to install or keep running locally. Configure an MCP client to use the hosted endpoint and provide the credential expected by the service. The README identifies Claude and Cursor as example agent clients, and the endpoint uses streamable HTTP with protocol revision 2025-06-18.
The server is published in the official MCP registry as ai.customdomain/mcp. Its production release in the supplied material is version 0.4.0. Detailed request arguments and response shapes are provided in the project’s TOOLS.md reference.
Tools and capabilities
The twelve tools are:
search-domain-availability for availability and live purchase or renewal pricing.
generate-domain-suggestions for free names derived from keywords.
create-domain-order for registrar registration after purchase authorization.
connect-domain for existing domains and their required records.
discover-provider for DNS-provider detection and pre-flight checks.
check-connection-status for propagation and certificate progress.
check-order-status for registration-order progress.
add-email for MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC setup.
forward-domain for permanent redirects.
reapply-connection for repairing a connection using a stored grant.
disconnect-domain for removing a connection and reverting DNS first.
list-connections for account-wide inventory and reconciliation.
CustomDomain™ supports 63 catalogued DNS providers, with automatic setup documented for 25. The remaining providers can still be used with returned records and a human-assisted step. CustomDomain™ is therefore suited to domain onboarding, tenant-domain management, email authentication, and scheduled connection checks where arbitrary DNS mutation is not desired.
