The change order MCP server manages variations linked to a quote or work order. A change order records its reference, client, title, date, lines, and status history. Lines can represent additions, removals, or changes, with quantities, unit prices in minor currency units, reasons, and dates.
The first change order for a reference establishes the original contract value. Later change orders inherit that value, and a different original value is refused. The running value is calculated from the original amount plus approved deltas. Pending changes remain separate until the client responds.
A change order begins as a draft. Lines may be added while it is still a draft, after which it can be sent to the client. A sent order can become approved or rejected, while a draft or sent order can be voided. Approved, rejected, and voided orders are final, and each transition has a date. Dates that move backward in the history are rejected.
Totals, VAT, currency handling, rounding, and formatted money use arithmetic shared with the invoice functionality. The server recalculates deltas and values when tools are called. For changed lines, invoice output can contain a reversal of the original line and the revised line, allowing the customer to reproduce the change rather than seeing only a net amount.
You can run the server locally from source or use its hosted streamable-HTTP endpoint. A source checkout is built with Node after cloning the repository, installing dependencies, and running the build command. The resulting MCP entry point is dist/index.js.
Hosted connections use https://mcp.zovo.one/mcp/change-order and require a bearer token. Clients that cannot set headers can put the token in the URL path instead. The endpoint returns unauthorized responses for tool calls without a token. A Claude Desktop package is also available from the latest release.
The npm package is not published, so an npx installation currently fails. Local data is stored under ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/mcp-servers/change-order/. The server does not require an account or API key for local use, and license keys are checked offline.
Available operations include:
invoice_create items in major units and quote_create items in minor units.Free usage allows five open draft or sent orders and up to 200 lines per order. Pro removes the open-order limit; both tiers retain the 200-line limit. Documents and invoice-ready payloads require Pro.
The change order MCP server keeps data in its own local directory and reads the shared business profile for VAT rate, currency, and business name. It does not write to sibling stores. Deleting is limited to empty drafts. A sent order cannot receive another line; it must be voided and replaced so the client approves the exact version they received.
