What Bing News does
The Bing News MCP server exposes keyword-based news search through Bing News RSS. A call to bing_news_search takes a search query and an optional result limit from 1 to 50, with 20 used by default. Results include the article title, decoded destination URL, short description, RFC-822 publication timestamp, and publication name.
This server belongs in the π Search & Data Extraction category. It is useful for agents that need recent reporting, source attribution, and links that can be opened directly rather than Bing tracking URLs. The feed is separate from Google News and GDELT, making it suitable when an application wants another news source.
How it works
The Bing News MCP server reads Bing's RSS search endpoint using the submitted query. Bing's feed places article destinations inside tracking URLs; the implementation extracts and decodes the real article URL before returning it as link. If that destination parameter is unavailable, it falls back to the original link instead of discarding the result.
The parser also reads Bing's namespaced News:Source field for the publication name. Before parsing, it checks that the response contains an RSS item marker. This helps detect cases where Bing returns an anti-bot or CAPTCHA page with a successful HTTP status rather than valid feed data.
The upstream RSS endpoint is not documented or versioned as an API, so its response format may change. Bing currently accepts requests from the documented deployment environment, but that behavior should not be treated as permanent.
Setup and configuration
The Bing News MCP server requires no registration, API key, or environment variable. For a hosted connection, configure an MCP client with the Pipeworx endpoint:
{
"mcpServers": {
"bing-news": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/bing-news/mcp"
}
}
}
A local stdio installation is also available through npm:
{
"mcpServers": {
"bing-news": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-bing-news"]
}
}
}
The hosted endpoint includes Pipeworx shared meta-tools in addition to the pack-specific tool. The local package exposes only this pack's tools. The hosted gateway can also be called over HTTP with POST /v1/tools/bing_news_search.
Tools and capabilities
The Bing News MCP server provides:
bing_news_search(query, limit?): searches Bing News and returns up to 50 matching articles.
- Real article links instead of Bing's
apiclick.aspx tracking wrappers when the destination URL is available.
- Publication titles, source names, descriptions, and RFC-822 timestamps for each result.
- Keyless operation through either the Pipeworx gateway or local stdio execution.
Limitations and notes
Search results depend on Bing News and its RSS feed. The feed is not a stable, versioned API, and Bing may change its structure or return an anti-bot response. A successful HTTP status does not guarantee that valid articles were returned. The server is an unofficial integration and is not affiliated with Bing.
The gateway's scoped endpoint lists shared Pipeworx meta-tools as well as the news tool. A local stdio process does not provide those shared tools or gateway-wide routing. No Bing rate limit is documented for this endpoint.
