What @bezda/rhp-mcp does
@bezda/rhp-mcp supports AI-assisted work with rhp, the reactive HTML plotting library. It exposes rhp’s guides, API references, and chart recipes so an agent can learn how charts are structured and implemented. It also includes a checker that opens a chart in a browser and evaluates how the result appears to a reader.
The checker is relevant to the Data Visualization category because it validates rendered charts rather than only reviewing source code. Its reports cover desktop and phone widths and include screenshots, making layout problems visible alongside the reported issue. A suggested correction is provided for each problem the checker identifies.
How it works
When used directly, the checker accepts an HTML chart page through the command-line entry point. Running npx -y @bezda/rhp-mcp check chart.html checks that page. Running the package without arguments starts the MCP server instead, allowing an MCP-compatible agent to use the same checking workflow during a coding session.
The guidance component gives an agent material about rhp’s chart model, including tested examples and recipes. rhp charts use HTML elements and CSS-based placement, with SolidJS components such as charts, plots, slats, and visual blocks. The MCP package helps an agent work from that material, while the checker provides a rendered result to inspect.
Setup and configuration
Install or run the checker through npx; the documented direct command does not require a global installation. Supply the path to an HTML chart when you want a one-off check:
npx -y @bezda/rhp-mcp check chart.html
For agent use, start @bezda/rhp-mcp with no arguments as an MCP server and add it to an MCP-compatible client according to that client’s standard server configuration. The repository also provides an Agent Skill separately. npx skills add bezda-team/rhp installs that skill into supported agents including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, and Gemini CLI; the skill and MCP checker can therefore be used together, but they are separate installation paths.
Tools and capabilities
The @bezda/rhp-mcp MCP server provides the following documented capabilities:
- Share rhp guides, references, and recipes with an AI coding agent.
- Check a chart page in a browser at desktop and phone widths.
- Report rendering or usability problems found during the check.
- Attach screenshots showing the checked result.
- Give a fix for each reported problem.
- Run the checker directly from the command line or through MCP.
Limitations and notes
The provided material documents chart checking and rhp guidance, not general browser automation or support for arbitrary charting libraries. The checker operates on an HTML chart page, so the target must be available as a page the browser can render. The documentation does not specify environment variables, remote service credentials, or named MCP tool identifiers.
The rhp library itself is a separate package. It uses SolidJS and renders charts with HTML and CSS; installing or building an rhp application may therefore require the application’s normal JavaScript setup. The MCP package helps an agent create and inspect rhp charts, but it does not replace the rhp plotting library.
