The baphometnxg/aloha-fyi-mcp MCP server gives AI assistants read-only access to Hawaii tourism data through three documented tools. Tour searches cover more than 2,500 bookable experiences sourced from Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, and Groupon. Queries can target an activity, restrict results to one of four islands, set a maximum per-person price, and optionally select a booking platform.

Deal searches return discounted or low-price activities, ordered from least expensive upward. Event searches cover concerts, festivals, nightlife, and other upcoming events across Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai. Event data is refreshed weekly from venue and promoter sources. Tour and deal results include booking URLs with affiliate tracking.

How it works

The hosted production endpoint is https://mcp.aloha.fyi/mcp. It uses stateless Streamable HTTP and MCP protocol version 2025-03-26, so a compatible client can connect directly without starting a local process. The service is public, read-only, and does not require an API key, OAuth flow, signup, or session management.

Tool responses normally include human-readable text. When AAAK is enabled for an allowlisted client, results also contain a typed structuredContent object. This structured response preserves fields such as the booking URL, source platform, price in cents, and island, which avoids making an agent recover those values by parsing prose. A health endpoint is available at https://mcp.aloha.fyi/health, and server discovery is provided through the standard well-known MCP server document.

The baphometnxg/aloha-fyi-mcp MCP server can be added to Claude Desktop with a server entry whose URL is the hosted endpoint. More generally, any MCP client supporting Streamable HTTP can point to that same URL.

Setup and configuration

For hosted use, add the endpoint directly to the client configuration:

No environment variables or local dependencies are needed for this connection. Restart the client after changing its configuration so the tools become available.

The repository also documents self-hosting. A local deployment requires Node.js 20 or newer, a PostgreSQL database containing an experiences table, and the schema supplied in schema.sql. The documented build flow installs dependencies, compiles TypeScript, and starts dist/http.js with DATABASE_URL and an optional port setting. Production deployments are driven from the corresponding server directory in the author's Nani-V3 repository, while this repository is maintained as a standalone reference and self-hosting option.

Tools and capabilities

• search_hawaii_tours: Searches by required keyword, island, maximum price, source platform, and result limit. It returns up to 20 results, with a default limit of five.
• get_hawaii_deals: Searches for a required activity and supports a maximum price, defaulting to $100, plus a result limit of up to 20.
• search_hawaii_events: Searches upcoming events by optional query, island, and number of days ahead, with a default seven-day window.

Limitations and notes

Event information is updated weekly rather than guaranteed to be real-time. The service is read-only and is intended to return tourism discovery data, not complete bookings inside the MCP interaction. Affiliate booking links lead to partner platforms, and availability or prices may change there.

AAAK structured responses depend on the calling client being enabled through the service's allowlist; clients that do not use AAAK continue to receive the standard text response. Self-hosting also requires access to a compatible PostgreSQL database and the expected experiences schema. The project is released under the MIT license.
