Overview

Arcgis Sanclemente MCP server connects agents to City of San Clemente, California open geospatial data through ArcGIS services. It provides tools to find datasets, inspect layer schemas, and query feature or map service layers with filters, sorting, pagination, selected fields, and geometry results. Use it when an agent needs San Clemente parcels, zoning, public works, or city service data. The server is available through the Pipeworx gateway or as a local stdio package.

Use cases

  • Find San Clemente parcel datasets by keyword
  • Inspect ArcGIS layer fields before querying
  • Filter zoning records with SQL-like conditions
  • Retrieve public works features with geometry
  • Page through city service layer results

Key features

  • Searches San Clemente GIS datasets
  • Queries ArcGIS Feature and Map Service layers
  • Inspects layer schemas and capabilities
  • Supports filtering, sorting, field selection, and pagination
  • Returns attribute rows and geometry
  • Runs through hosted MCP or local stdio

How Arcgis Sanclemente works

What Arcgis Sanclemente does

Arcgis Sanclemente MCP server gives MCP-compatible agents access to the City of San Clemente’s open geospatial datasets in California. The available data includes areas such as parcels, zoning, public works, and city services. It is intended for workflows that need to discover relevant local datasets and then retrieve structured records from the corresponding ArcGIS services.

The server exposes three pack-specific tools:

  • search_datasets finds datasets by keyword and returns each result’s name, summary, record count, owner or organization, and Feature Service URL.
  • query_layer retrieves records from an ArcGIS Feature Service or Map Service layer.
  • layer_info reports a layer’s fields, field types, geometry type, total record count, and capabilities.

The listing belongs to the Location Services category. The integration is independent and unofficial; it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the City of San Clemente or the upstream ArcGIS provider.

How it works

Start with search_datasets when you do not already know which service contains the required information. Pass the returned URL to layer_info to inspect the schema before constructing a query. Then use query_layer against that URL to request matching records.

Queries support a SQL-like where expression, comma-separated out_fields, order_by, limit, and offset. Results contain attribute rows and geometry. To inspect a sample without applying an attribute filter, use where set to 1=1 and out_fields set to *. The layer schema and capabilities returned by layer_info can help an agent choose valid field names and understand the layer’s geometry.

Setup and configuration

Arcgis Sanclemente can be connected through the hosted Pipeworx MCP endpoint:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-sanclemente": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-sanclemente/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The gateway endpoint also lists shared Pipeworx meta-tools, including ask_pipeworx, discover_tools, search_within, and memory-related tools. The exact tool scope is reported by the MCP initialize response. ask_pipeworx can route natural-language questions across the wider Pipeworx catalog from either the pack endpoint or the full gateway.

For a standalone connection, run the package locally over stdin and stdout:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-sanclemente": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-sanclemente"]
    }
  }
}

The local mode exposes only the three Arcgis Sanclemente pack tools and does not add the gateway’s shared meta-tools. No environment variables are documented as required.

Tools and capabilities

Arcgis Sanclemente supports dataset discovery, ArcGIS layer inspection, and record retrieval. Dataset search is useful for finding the service URL needed by the other tools. Schema inspection provides field names and types before querying. Layer queries can return selected attributes, ordered and paginated results, and geometry.

The gateway also offers an HTTP tool interface for direct calls without an MCP client. For example, the dataset search operation is available through the gateway’s versioned tools API. The standalone package is instead suited to clients that launch local stdio MCP processes.

Limitations and notes

The tools are scoped to City of San Clemente GIS data described by the package. They do not represent a general ArcGIS search interface beyond the datasets and service URLs exposed by this integration. Query results depend on the source layer’s available fields, records, geometry, and capabilities.

Gateway and standalone connections have different listed tool sets: the gateway adds shared Pipeworx tools, while the local package does not. The README identifies the project as an unofficial integration, so users should verify important results against the underlying source services.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arcgis Sanclemente

Arcgis Sanclemente is an MCP server that connects AI agents to City of San Clemente, California open geospatial data through ArcGIS services. Its main tools search datasets, query Feature or Map Service layers, and inspect layer schemas, including fields, geometry type, record counts, and capabilities.

Run it locally with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-sanclemente` or add that command and argument to your MCP client configuration. You can also connect to the hosted Pipeworx endpoint at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-sanclemente/mcp`.

First use `search_datasets` with a parcel-related keyword, then pass the returned Feature Service URL to `query_layer`. Use `where`, `out_fields`, `order_by`, `limit`, and `offset` to control the returned records.

Yes, Cursor is named as a supported MCP client in the setup instructions. Configure the hosted MCP URL in Cursor, or configure the local `npx` command for standalone stdio operation.
