Overview

Arcgis Lincolnne MCP server connects AI agents to Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska open geospatial data published through ArcGIS. It provides tools to find datasets, inspect layer schemas, and query Feature Service or Map Service layers for records and geometry. Use `search_datasets` first to find a service URL, then pass that URL to `layer_info` or `query_layer`. It is suitable for parcel, zoning, public works, and city service data research.

Use cases

  • Find parcel and zoning datasets by keyword
  • Inspect ArcGIS layer fields and geometry types
  • Query public works records with filters and pagination
  • Sample feature service rows and geometry
  • Retrieve metadata for Lincoln city service layers

Key features

  • Keyword dataset search
  • ArcGIS Feature and Map Service queries
  • SQL-like filtering and sorting
  • Field selection and pagination
  • Layer schema and capability inspection
  • Standalone stdio and gateway access

How Arcgis Lincolnne works

What Arcgis Lincolnne MCP server does

Arcgis Lincolnne MCP server exposes Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska open GIS data through MCP. The source data is published with ArcGIS and includes categories such as parcels, zoning, public works, and city services. Agents can discover relevant datasets, inspect their structure, and retrieve matching records without manually browsing ArcGIS service directories.

The package is an independent, unofficial integration and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream data provider. It belongs in the Location Services category for workflows that need county or city geospatial records.

How it works

The normal workflow begins with search_datasets. Give it a keyword such as a subject related to parcels or zoning. Each result can include a dataset name, summary, record count, owner or organization, and a Feature Service URL. That URL is the input for the other two tools.

Use layer_info to examine a service layer before writing a query. It reports field names and types, geometry type, total records, and supported capabilities. Use query_layer to retrieve rows and geometry from a Feature Service or Map Service layer. Its parameters support a SQL-like where expression, selected fields through comma-separated out_fields, sorting with order_by, and pagination with limit and offset. A where value of 1=1 with out_fields set to * can be used to sample a layer.

Setup and configuration

The gateway endpoint can be added to an MCP client as a remote server:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-lincolnne": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-lincolnne/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The README names Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf as compatible clients. The gateway endpoint also exposes shared Pipeworx meta-tools in addition to this pack's three tools. Those tools include routing and discovery functions such as ask_pipeworx, but the exact scope is reported by the connection's initialize response.

Arcgis Lincolnne can also run locally as a stdio server without a Pipeworx account:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-lincolnne": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-lincolnne"]
    }
  }
}

The local mode serves only this pack's tools over stdin and stdout. The package can be started directly with npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-lincolnne to verify that it launches.

Tools and capabilities

  • search_datasets: Finds Lincoln and Lancaster County GIS datasets by keyword and returns metadata plus service URLs.
  • query_layer: Retrieves attribute rows and geometry from a specified ArcGIS Feature Service or Map Service layer.
  • layer_info: Describes a layer's schema, geometry, record total, and capabilities.
  • HTTP tool calls are also available through the gateway, including a documented endpoint for invoking dataset search directly.

Limitations and notes

The tool searches the open datasets available through Lincoln and Lancaster County GIS; it does not describe a general-purpose ArcGIS catalog. Queries require a layer URL, so discovery or another known service URL is needed before using query_layer or layer_info.

Gateway and local deployments differ in scope. The gateway adds shared Pipeworx meta-tools and can route broader questions, while the standalone package exposes only the Arcgis Lincolnne tools. Gateway documentation states that initial calls require no account, but the standalone mode is the option specifically described as requiring no gateway account. The data, schema, record counts, and service capabilities come from the underlying ArcGIS sources and may change over time.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arcgis Lincolnne

Arcgis Lincolnne is an MCP server that connects AI agents to Lincoln and Lancaster County GIS open geospatial datasets through ArcGIS. It provides search_datasets for discovery, query_layer for filtered records and geometry, and layer_info for schemas, counts, and capabilities from available layers.

Run it as a local stdio server with npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-lincolnne, or add that command and package to your MCP client's server configuration. You can also connect to the documented Pipeworx gateway URL instead of running the package locally.

Add the gateway URL to Cursor's MCP configuration, or configure the local npx stdio command. The gateway exposes shared Pipeworx meta-tools in addition to the Arcgis Lincolnne tools.

First call search_datasets with a keyword and take a returned Feature Service URL. Pass that URL to query_layer, then provide a where expression, selected out_fields, ordering, and optional limit or offset. Use layer_info first when you need to inspect fields or capabilities.
