Overview

Arcgis Eastbatonrouge connects MCP clients to East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana open geospatial data published through ArcGIS. Its tools find relevant datasets, inspect layer schemas, and query feature or map service layers with filters, sorting, pagination, and selected fields. Use it for parcels, addresses, public works, planning, and other parish GIS data. It is available through the Pipeworx gateway or as a local stdio package.

Use cases

  • Find parish parcel datasets by keyword
  • Query address or planning layers with filters
  • Inspect ArcGIS layer fields before writing queries
  • Retrieve geospatial records with pagination
  • Sample layer attributes and geometry

Key features

  • Keyword search across East Baton Rouge GIS datasets
  • ArcGIS Feature Service and Map Service queries
  • SQL-like filtering, sorting, and pagination
  • Layer schema and capability inspection
  • Attribute and geometry retrieval
  • Remote gateway and local stdio operation

How Arcgis Eastbatonrouge works

What Arcgis Eastbatonrouge does

Arcgis Eastbatonrouge exposes East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana GIS data through three MCP tools. The integration focuses on open geospatial datasets covering areas such as parcels, addresses, public works, and planning.

The workflow begins with dataset discovery. search_datasets accepts a keyword and returns matching dataset names, summaries, record counts, owning organization, and the ArcGIS Feature Service URL associated with each result. That URL becomes the input for the other two tools.

query_layer retrieves records from an ArcGIS Feature Service or Map Service layer. Results can include attributes and geometry. layer_info describes a layer before querying it, including its fields, field types, geometry type, record count, and supported capabilities.

How it works

The hosted MCP endpoint is available at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-eastbatonrouge/mcp. Add that URL to an MCP client as a remote server. The endpoint lists the three ArcGIS tools along with shared Pipeworx gateway tools, so its advertised tool set is broader than this integration’s dedicated tool list.

A local alternative runs through standard MCP over stdin and stdout. Configure the package with npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-eastbatonrouge; this mode exposes only the Arcgis Eastbatonrouge tools and does not add Pipeworx routing or gateway meta-tools.

The gateway also provides a full endpoint at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp. Both gateway URLs use the same service infrastructure, while the scoped endpoint lists this pack’s tools directly and the full endpoint lists tools from the wider catalog. Gateway requests can also use ask_pipeworx to route natural-language questions to available tools.

Setup and configuration

For a remote connection, add a server entry such as:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-eastbatonrouge": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-eastbatonrouge/mcp"
    }
  }
}

For local stdio operation, use:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-eastbatonrouge": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-eastbatonrouge"]
    }
  }
}

The package can also be started directly with npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-eastbatonrouge to verify that it launches. The hosted gateway can be called over HTTP as well, including direct tool requests such as a POST to /v1/tools/arcgis_eastbatonrouge_search_datasets.

Tools and capabilities

  • search_datasets: Finds parish GIS datasets by keyword and returns metadata plus the service URL needed for follow-up operations.
  • query_layer: Applies a SQL-like where expression, selects fields with a comma-separated out_fields value, orders results, and paginates with limit and offset.
  • layer_info: Inspects fields, geometry, record totals, and layer capabilities.
  • Sampling a layer is supported with where="1=1" and out_fields="*".

Limitations and notes

This is an independent, unofficial integration and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream GIS provider. Queries depend on the ArcGIS service URL returned by dataset search and on the capabilities of the selected layer.

The gateway and local package expose different tool scopes. A scoped gateway connection includes shared Pipeworx tools, while the standalone package contains only the three pack-specific tools. Initial gateway calls do not require an account, and the local mode avoids a gateway round trip altogether.

The MIT license applies to the package.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arcgis Eastbatonrouge

Arcgis Eastbatonrouge is an MCP server that connects AI clients to East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana open GIS data through ArcGIS. Its main tools search datasets, query Feature or Map Service layers, and inspect layer schemas, including fields, geometry, record counts, capabilities, attributes, and returned geometry.

Run it locally with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-eastbatonrouge` and configure the command with MCP stdio settings. You can also connect to the hosted endpoint at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-eastbatonrouge/mcp` without installing the package.

First call `search_datasets` to find a dataset and obtain its Feature Service URL, then pass that URL to `query_layer`. Use `where`, `out_fields`, `order_by`, `limit`, and `offset` to control the returned records.

Yes. Call `layer_info` with the service URL returned by `search_datasets` to view field names and types, geometry type, total records, and layer capabilities.
