Overview

Arcgis Centennial connects MCP clients to City of Centennial, Colorado open geospatial data published through ArcGIS services. Its tools find relevant datasets, inspect layer schemas, and query feature or map service layers using filters, selected fields, sorting, and pagination. Use it for questions involving Centennial parcels, zoning, public works, or city services. It is available through a hosted Pipeworx MCP endpoint or as a local stdio package.

Use cases

  • Find Centennial parcel and zoning datasets by keyword
  • Inspect ArcGIS layer fields and geometry types
  • Query public works records with filters and pagination
  • Sample feature service records with selected fields and geometry

Key features

  • Keyword search across Centennial GIS datasets
  • ArcGIS Feature Service and Map Service queries
  • SQL-like record filtering and field selection
  • Sorting, pagination, and geometry results
  • Layer schema and capability inspection
  • Hosted HTTP and local stdio deployment

How Arcgis Centennial works

What Arcgis Centennial does

Arcgis Centennial exposes City of Centennial GIS open-data resources through three MCP tools. Dataset search covers subjects such as parcels, zoning, public works, and city services. Results include a dataset name, summary, record count, owner or organization, and a Feature Service URL that can be used with the other tools.

The server works with ArcGIS Feature Service and Map Service layers. It can return layer records, field definitions, geometry information, record totals, and service capabilities. The integration is independent and unofficial; it is not published, endorsed, or affiliated with the upstream provider.

How it works

A typical workflow starts with search_datasets, using a keyword such as parcels or zoning. Select a returned service URL, then pass it to layer_info to inspect the schema or to query_layer to retrieve records.

query_layer accepts an SQL-like where expression, a comma-separated out_fields list, order_by, limit, and offset. To sample a layer, use where="1=1" with out_fields="*". Query results contain attribute rows and geometry.

The hosted endpoint is available at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-centennial/mcp. A pack endpoint also exposes shared Pipeworx gateway meta-tools in addition to the Arcgis Centennial tools. The gateway's initialize response identifies the exact scope exposed by the connection. The full gateway is available at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp.

Setup and configuration

For a hosted MCP connection, add the following server entry to an MCP client:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-centennial": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-centennial/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The package can also run locally over standard input and output without a Pipeworx account or gateway round trip:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "arcgis-centennial": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-centennial"]
    }
  }
}

Run npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-centennial directly to verify that the local process starts. The local mode exposes only this pack's three tools, while the hosted pack endpoint also includes shared gateway tools.

Without an MCP client, hosted tools can be called over HTTP. For example, send a JSON POST request to https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/arcgis_centennial_search_datasets with a body such as {"query":"parcels"}.

Tools and capabilities

  • search_datasets: Finds Centennial GIS datasets by keyword and returns identifying metadata plus service URLs.
  • query_layer: Retrieves ArcGIS layer rows and geometry with filtering, field selection, ordering, limits, and offsets.
  • layer_info: Reports fields and types, geometry type, total records, and service capabilities for a layer URL.

Limitations and notes

Layer queries require a URL obtained from dataset search or another valid ArcGIS Feature Service or Map Service layer. The hosted connection includes Pipeworx shared meta-tools, so its tool listing is larger than the three pack-specific tools. The local package does not include those shared tools or cross-catalog routing. Initial hosted calls require no account.

The package is licensed under MIT.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arcgis Centennial

Arcgis Centennial is an MCP server that connects AI clients to City of Centennial, Colorado open GIS data through ArcGIS Feature and Map Services. Its main tools search datasets, inspect layer schemas, and query layer records with filters, selected fields, sorting, pagination, and geometry results.

Install it locally by configuring your MCP client to run `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-centennial` with standard input and output. Alternatively, connect to `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-centennial/mcp` as a hosted MCP server.

Yes, Arcgis Centennial works with Cursor through its hosted MCP URL or local stdio command. Add the server URL to Cursor's MCP configuration, or configure `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-centennial` as the command.

First call `search_datasets` to find a dataset and obtain its Feature Service URL, then pass that URL to `query_layer`. Supply `where`, `out_fields`, `order_by`, `limit`, and `offset` as needed.

Call `layer_info` with the layer URL to retrieve field names and types, geometry type, total record count, and service capabilities. Obtain the URL from `search_datasets` or provide another valid ArcGIS Feature or Map Service layer URL.
