Overview

Arcgis Branson MCP server exposes City of Branson, Missouri open geospatial data through ArcGIS tools. It lets agents find datasets, inspect layer schemas, and query Feature Service or Map Service layers using filters, selected fields, sorting, and pagination. Use it when an agent needs structured access to Branson parcels, zoning, public works, or city-service data. It is available through a hosted MCP endpoint or as a local stdio package.

Use cases

  • Search Branson GIS datasets by topic
  • Inspect parcel or zoning layer schemas
  • Filter public works records with SQL-like conditions
  • Retrieve paginated ArcGIS attributes and geometry

Key features

  • Keyword dataset discovery
  • ArcGIS layer schema inspection
  • SQL-like layer filtering
  • Field selection and result ordering
  • Pagination with limits and offsets
  • Attribute and geometry retrieval

How Arcgis Branson works

What Arcgis Branson does

Arcgis Branson provides MCP access to the City of Branson, Missouri’s open GIS data. The Arcgis Branson MCP server focuses on dataset discovery and ArcGIS layer queries rather than general mapping or GIS editing. Available data includes areas such as parcels, zoning, public works, and city services, subject to what the city publishes through its ArcGIS services.

The server exposes three pack-specific tools. search_datasets finds relevant datasets by keyword and returns identifying details, a summary, record count, owner or organization, and the Feature Service URL needed for follow-up operations. layer_info describes a service layer’s fields, geometry type, record count, and capabilities. query_layer returns matching attribute rows and geometry from a Feature Service or Map Service layer.

How it works

A typical workflow starts with search_datasets, using a term such as parcels or zoning. Pass the returned service URL to layer_info when you need to understand the available fields and supported operations. Then call query_layer with a SQL-like where expression, a comma-separated out_fields list, and optional ordering and pagination values.

For an initial sample, use where="1=1" and out_fields="*". order_by, limit, and offset can narrow or paginate results. Query responses include attributes and geometry when supplied by the source layer.

Setup and configuration

The hosted endpoint is available at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-branson/mcp. Add that URL as an MCP server in a compatible client such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Windsurf. The pack endpoint also exposes shared Pipeworx gateway meta-tools in addition to the three Arcgis Branson tools. The exact scope is reported by the MCP initialize response.

A local stdio installation is also available through the @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-branson npm package. Configure the client to run npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-branson, or execute that command directly to verify startup. The local process serves only this pack’s tools and does not add the gateway’s shared meta-tools. HTTP callers can invoke hosted tools through the documented /v1/tools/arcgis_branson_search_datasets route.

Tools and capabilities

  • Search Branson GIS datasets by keyword.
  • Retrieve dataset names, summaries, record counts, owners, and service URLs.
  • Inspect layer fields, types, geometry, counts, and capabilities.
  • Filter ArcGIS layers with SQL-like where conditions.
  • Select fields, sort results, and paginate with limits and offsets.
  • Return layer attributes and geometry.

Limitations and notes

Arcgis Branson is an independent, unofficial integration and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the City of Branson or another upstream provider. Results depend on the data and availability of the city’s ArcGIS services.

The hosted gateway and local package expose different tool lists. The gateway includes shared Pipeworx tools and can route broader questions through ask_pipeworx, while the standalone stdio server is limited to the pack-specific tools. The documentation states that initial hosted calls do not require an account, but does not specify broader account, rate, or operational policies.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arcgis Branson

Arcgis Branson is an MCP server that connects AI clients to City of Branson, Missouri open GIS data published through ArcGIS. Its main tools search datasets, inspect Feature Service or Map Service layer schemas, and query layers for filtered attributes and geometry using service URLs returned by dataset search.

Install it locally by configuring your MCP client to run `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arcgis-branson`. The package communicates over stdin and stdout and does not require a Pipeworx gateway account. You can also connect to the hosted MCP endpoint at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-branson/mcp`.

Yes, Arcgis Branson works with Cursor through the hosted MCP endpoint. Add `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arcgis-branson/mcp` as an MCP server in Cursor. The README also names Claude Desktop and Windsurf as compatible client examples.

First use `search_datasets` to find a dataset and copy its Feature Service URL, then pass that URL to `query_layer`. Supply options such as `where`, `out_fields`, `order_by`, `limit`, and `offset`; use `where="1=1"` with `out_fields="*"` to sample a layer.

The documented tools do not provide record editing. They search datasets, inspect layer metadata, and query Feature Service or Map Service layers for attributes and geometry.
