What Alaska Code does
The Alaska Code MCP server exposes two tools for researching Alaska statutes. ak_statute returns the text of one section when given a citation such as 4.11.010 or AS 04.11.010. Its response also includes the official catchline and title or chapter context. ak_search searches official chapter catchlines for a topic or keyword, such as “alcohol license” or “murder.”
The search index covers 942 chapter catchlines across all 47 Alaska statutory titles. It is intended for finding relevant chapters, not for searching the full text of statutes or individual section catchlines. This makes the server suitable for citation retrieval and initial topic discovery in a Legal workflow.
How it works
The tools use the Alaska State Legislature’s public statute viewer at akleg.gov as their source. A citation lookup requests a single section from the site and distinguishes an empty response from a valid statute fragment. The chapter search uses an index generated from the legislature’s title and chapter listings.
The Pipeworx MCP endpoint is available at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/alaska-code/mcp. The gateway connection includes the Alaska Code tools along with shared Pipeworx meta-tools, including routing and discovery tools. A standalone package is also available and communicates over MCP using stdin and stdout; that mode exposes only the Alaska Code tools.
Setup and configuration
No account, signup, activation gate, or environment variable is required. Add the gateway URL to an MCP client, or run the package locally with npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-alaska-code.
A gateway configuration uses the alaska-code server name and the Pipeworx URL. The local configuration uses the package command instead of a URL. The same source and core tools are available in both modes, while only the gateway exposes the shared meta-tools. The server can also be called through the Pipeworx HTTP tools endpoint, including POST /v1/tools/ak_statute with a JSON citation argument.
Tools and capabilities
ak_statute({citation}): retrieves one section by Alaska citation and supplies its catchline and title or chapter context.
ak_search({query, limit?}): searches the indexed chapter catchlines and optionally limits the result count.
- Keyless access: makes the public statute data available without credentials.
- Local stdio operation: runs without a Pipeworx account or gateway round trip.
- Gateway access: provides the pack tools plus Pipeworx-wide routing and discovery tools.
Limitations and notes
The Alaska Code MCP server does not provide full-text search. Its topic search is limited to chapter catchlines, and the upstream source does not provide a section-level catchline feed for this integration.
It does not provide amendment history or historical versions of statute text. The returned statute fragments do not include a trailing amendment-history citation, and session laws cannot be mapped directly to code citations for historical retrieval.
The baked chapter index is generated from 47 title requests. Maintainers can refresh it with node scripts/bake-index.mjs > src/ak-index-data.ts after a legislative codification update. The upstream site declares ISO-8859-1 encoding, which the implementation decodes explicitly. The integration is independent and unofficial; it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the Alaska State Legislature.
