Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **get_time_series** — Weekly (or daily) history for **one** `source` + `keyword`. Same name on MCP and REST (`mode: "get_time_series"`). REST also accepts `get_trends` as an alias.

## What YouTube Trends MCP MCP server does

YouTube Trends MCP MCP server gives MCP-compatible clients access to TrendsMCP data through three tools: `get_time_series`, `get_growth`, and `get_top_trends`. The service supports trend sources including Google, TikTok, YouTube, Amazon, Reddit, and other sources listed by TrendsMCP. The repository provides both a hosted MCP connection and a local stdio adapter.

`get_time_series` returns weekly history by default, with daily data available through the REST interface. Each request covers one keyword and one source. Where the underlying pipeline supports an index, values use a 0–100 scale, and some sources also return absolute volume.

`get_growth` reports point-to-point percentage changes. It accepts preset periods such as 7D, 30D, 6M, 12M, 1Y, and 5Y, as well as custom recent and baseline dates. Multiple periods in one call still count as one request for the selected source and keyword.

`get_top_trends` returns a live ranked feed without a keyword. It supports pagination, category filters for some feed types, ranking by rank or rank change, and time windows for rank-change sorting.

## How it works

The hosted MCP endpoint is `https://api.trendsmcp.ai/mcp`. Requests use a TrendsMCP API key as a Bearer token. The same key can be used with the documented REST endpoint at `https://api.trendsmcp.ai/api`; REST calls specify a `mode`, with `get_time_series` as the time-series mode and `get_trends` accepted as an alias there.

Source names for the tools use the catalog’s lowercase names. A time-series request must identify exactly one source and keyword. Growth can use one source or a comma-separated source list. For MCP calls to `get_top_trends`, `type` is required and must exactly match the feed name, including capitalization. REST can omit `type` to request every feed, but that is billed per feed.

## Setup and configuration

Create a free API key through the TrendsMCP account page before making paid data requests. The hosted connection can be added to clients using the URL above and an authorization header. Claude.ai uses the documented custom connector flow with OAuth rather than a Bearer key. ChatGPT requires Developer mode before adding the connector.

For local stdio use, install the repository package and run `python -m trends_mcp_server`. Set `TRENDSMCP_API_KEY` in the process environment for paid calls. The stdio process can list tools without a key, but data requests use the same quota as hosted calls.

## Tools and capabilities

## Limitations and notes

YouTube Trends MCP MCP server does not accept multiple sources in one time-series request; repeat the call for each source. `get_top_trends` does not take a keyword, and MCP clients must provide an exact feed type. Some live-feed types require a category, including certain Amazon, Google Trends, Top Websites, Substack, and TikTok hashtag boards.

The service has a stated free allowance of 100 requests per month. REST requests that omit `type` can incur charges for each returned feed. The README directs users to the online documentation for the current parameter lists and supported live-feed names, so clients should not assume that feed names or source-specific keyword formats are interchangeable.
