## Claude Desktop Quick Installation

```json
    "command": "uvx",
    "args": ["--from","yandex-music-mcp","yandex-music-mcp-auth"],
    "env": {
      "YANDEX_MUSIC_TOKEN": "",
      "YANDEX_MUSIC_TOKEN_FILE": "",
      "YANDEX_MUSIC_EXPORT_DIR": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `YANDEX_MUSIC_TOKEN`, `YANDEX_MUSIC_TOKEN_FILE`, `YANDEX_MUSIC_EXPORT_DIR` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What Yandex Music (unofficial) MCP server does

The Yandex Music (unofficial) MCP server exposes account and catalog operations to MCP-compatible assistants. Read operations include checking account information, searching for tracks, albums, artists, and playlists, reviewing liked tracks, grouping listening history by day, and listing or reading the account's playlists.

It can also retrieve a public playlist or album from a URL, inspect album and artist tracks, find similar tracks, read My Wave recommendations, and view the chart. Write operations create playlists, add or remove tracks, delete playlists, and apply or remove likes. New likes and playlists become visible in the normal Yandex Music application.

Exports are available for liked tracks or playlist contents in TXT and CSV formats. The server handles metadata and account library actions only; it does not download audio or operate playback controls.

## How it works

The Yandex Music (unofficial) MCP server runs locally using the stdio transport. An MCP client starts the process and communicates with it on the same computer. The server uses the unofficial `yandex-music` library to access Yandex Music, so changes to Yandex's API may temporarily affect compatibility.

Authentication is completed through a separate login command. The resulting token is kept on the local machine, either in the default token file or at a location supplied through configuration. The token provides access to the Yandex Music account and should be treated as sensitive.

Changes are exposed to the MCP client as mutating tools, allowing clients such as Claude to request confirmation before running them. Playlist deletion has an additional exact-title check.

## Setup and configuration

Install `uv`, then authenticate with:

```bash
uvx --from yandex-music-mcp yandex-music-mcp-auth
```

The login flow opens Yandex's device page and saves the token after authentication. The server can then be added to an MCP client with `uvx yandex-music-mcp`, or run from a checked-out source directory with `uv`.

The supported configuration variables are `YANDEX_MUSIC_TOKEN` for providing a token directly, `YANDEX_MUSIC_TOKEN_FILE` for selecting a token file, and `YANDEX_MUSIC_EXPORT_DIR` for choosing where exports are written. If no export directory is set, files go to the Documents/Yandex Music exports location. The repository documents Windows, macOS, and Linux setup.

## Tools and capabilities

Available operations cover:

- Account connection checks and catalog search.
- Liked tracks, listening history, personal playlists, and playlist tracks.
- Public playlist or album lookup by URL.
- Album, artist, similar-track, My Wave, and chart retrieval.
- Playlist creation, track insertion and removal, and playlist deletion.
- Like and unlike actions.
- TXT and CSV exports for likes or playlists.

## Limitations and notes

The Yandex Music (unofficial) MCP server is not affiliated with or endorsed by Yandex. It depends on an unofficial API library and may need fixes if the upstream service changes. Some functions, including My Wave, may require a Yandex Plus subscription.

Playback remains outside the server: listening takes place in the Yandex Music application. Keep the token private and do not commit it to source control. Access can be revoked through Yandex account device and service settings. If a client does not show updated tools after installation, restart the client and open a new chat.
