## Description
Wisp Panel MCP server for secure game server management through the Wisp Client API.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
No confirmed install details yet, so no config is published. Follow the setup steps in the repository above.

## Documentation

## What Wisp MCP MCP server does

Wisp MCP MCP server gives MCP-compatible AI clients access to the WISP game panel Client API without granting direct host-machine access. It works with WISP panels operated by different hosting providers, provided you have the panel URL and a WISP Client API token.

The integration targets the game-server environment exposed by WISP rather than a particular game. That makes it applicable to Rust, Minecraft, and other games managed through the same panel. A default server ID can be configured, or operations can work with the server identifiers exposed by the panel.

## How it works

The server communicates with WISP through its Client API and publishes the available operations as MCP tools. Local deployments use stdio; remote deployments can use Streamable HTTP behind authentication and a secure network boundary. Claude Code can launch the stdio command directly or through SSH on a remote VPS. Clients that support MCP bundles can also use the release `.mcpb` artifact.

Read-oriented operations cover server status, resource usage, directories, files, logs, backups, databases, audit logs, and other panel state. Large responses can be limited with pagination, bounded file reads, search excerpts, and file fingerprints so clients do not have to load an entire collection or file at once.

## Setup and configuration

The required configuration values are `WISP_PANEL_URL` and `WISP_API_TOKEN`. `WISP_SERVER_ID` may define a default server. The repository provides a Linux VPS installer for Debian 12 and Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, as well as a local Python setup requiring Python 3.11 or later. The installer creates a dedicated system user, keeps credentials outside Git, and runs a doctor check.

After installation, `wisp-mcp doctor` verifies the connection. `wisp-mcp compatibility` performs a deeper read-only check of the API response contract without changing the game server. For remote HTTP use, authentication must be configured; otherwise the server refuses the connection.

## Tools and capabilities

Wisp MCP MCP server supports operations for:

- Inspecting server status, CPU, memory, disk, and network usage.
- Listing paginated directories, reading files, searching files, and tailing logs.
- Creating files and making guarded edits to existing files with SHA-256 checks.
- Sending console commands and starting, stopping, or restarting servers.
- Creating and inspecting backups.
- Managing databases when database capabilities are enabled.
- Reviewing audit logs and common WISP panel state.

Existing-file edits use a supplied fingerprint and re-check the file before writing. The API does not provide a compare-and-swap primitive, so this is optimistic concurrency rather than an atomic filesystem lock.

## Limitations and notes

Write operations are opt-in through environment variables such as `WISP_ALLOW_COMMANDS`, `WISP_ALLOW_FILE_WRITES`, and `WISP_ALLOW_POWER`. Backup, database, and server-settings capabilities have separate switches. A further destructive gate controls actions including file deletion, backup restoration or deletion, database deletion or password rotation, force-kill, and panel updates.

Keep destructive access disabled during normal administration. The project recommends inspecting first, backing up before risky changes, making the smallest change, and checking status and logs afterward. API and MCP tokens are not returned by tools, and paths and object IDs are validated. The AI client must support MCP; provider-specific access is not required beyond a WISP panel URL and Client API token.
