## What the Wati MCP server does

The Wati MCP server exposes Wati workspace data and operations to compatible AI clients through the Model Context Protocol. It covers customer records, conversations, leads, campaigns, templates, segments, follow-up discovery, and trend analysis. Instagram functions include listing posts and comments, identifying unread comments, posting public replies, and sending private replies.

Astra support extends beyond data lookup. With Astra enabled in the Wati account, an agent can build, test, deploy, and refine AI agents, including their instructions, tone, tools, and escalation rules. This makes the connector suitable for customer-service review as well as Astra configuration work.

## How it works

The Wati MCP server is hosted by Wati, so there is no local process to install or infrastructure to maintain. Clients connect over remote streamable HTTP to one of three endpoints: the global service, the EU-hosted service for EU accounts, or the Saudi Arabia-hosted service for KSA accounts.

Authentication uses OAuth through the Wati account. No Wati API key is required. After connecting, an AI client can call the available Wati operations and interpret their results in conversation. The repository also includes guidance for agents and setup instructions for supported clients.

## Setup and configuration

Choose the endpoint that matches the Wati account's hosting region:

- Global: `https://mcp.wati.io/mcp`
- EU: `https://eu-mcp.wati.io/mcp`
- KSA: `https://ksa-mcp.wati.io/mcp`

Claude users can add a custom connector with the appropriate URL. Claude Code can register the service with its HTTP MCP command and then authenticate through `/mcp`. ChatGPT uses a custom MCP server URL with OAuth, while Meta Muse can create a remote streamable-HTTP connector. Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, and other clients use the setup steps in `AGENTS.md`.

A Wati Growth, Pro, or Business plan is required; trial accounts can use the service during the trial. Astra functions additionally require Astra to be enabled and connected in the Wati account. The client must support remote MCP servers or custom connectors.

## Tools and capabilities

Use the connector to:

- Search contacts, conversations, and leads, then review message history.
- Inspect contact profiles, counts, conversation tags, and unread Instagram activity.
- Manage campaigns and templates, including reviewing campaign results.
- Find customer segments and conversations that need follow-up.
- List Instagram posts and comments, reply publicly, or send private replies.
- Create, test, deploy, and improve Astra agents and their behavior settings.

The Wati MCP server can support workflows such as identifying leads without recent replies, comparing campaign activity across periods, or summarizing Astra escalation rules. Any outbound customer message should still be reviewed and approved by the user before sending.

## Limitations and notes

The service is hosted rather than self-managed, and access depends on a qualifying Wati plan and OAuth connection. Astra operations are unavailable unless Astra is enabled and connected. WhatsApp free-form replies are limited to the 24-hour period after a customer's latest message; after that, an approved template is needed.

The repository describes the hosted service, not the older self-hosted Python server that uses API tokens. Regional endpoint selection matters for accounts hosted in the EU or Saudi Arabia. The launch-period availability is described as free for paid Wati users, but the underlying Wati plan requirement still applies.
