## What walmart MCP server does

The walmart MCP server lets an MCP-compatible agent interact with Walmart.com for product discovery and cart management. It can authenticate a Walmart account, establish a delivery or pickup location, search products, inspect item details, and maintain the current cart. It also exposes recent order history and a checkout preview containing order totals without submitting the purchase.

This fits assistants that turn shopping requests into concrete product searches and cart changes. Location matters: setting a ZIP code or full address can change the availability and pricing returned by Walmart.

## How it works

The server uses the stdio MCP transport and drives Chromium through Playwright. Stealth patches are included in the browser setup, including changes related to webdriver detection, browser plugins, languages, and permissions.

Authentication uses the `login` tool with a Walmart email address and password. Cookies and authentication data persist under `~/.striderlabs/walmart/`, allowing later calls to reuse the existing session. `status` reports the current session state, while `logout` clears the session and stored cookies.

## Setup and configuration

Run the package directly with Node.js:

It can also be installed globally with npm and started using `mcp-walmart`. Add a stdio entry to the MCP client configuration with `npx` as the command and `@striderlabs/mcp-walmart` as its argument.

Node.js 18 or newer is required. Chromium is installed automatically through Playwright. No runtime environment variables are documented. Session files are written to `~/.striderlabs/walmart/cookies.json` and `~/.striderlabs/walmart/auth.json`.

## Tools and capabilities

## Limitations and notes

Checkout is intentionally read-only: it returns a summary and does not place the order. A user must complete the purchase manually after reviewing the result. Login accepts account credentials through browser automation, and the resulting session data is stored locally in the stated directory. Cart and product operations depend on the active Walmart session and location context. The server's documented transport is stdio, and its browser workflow requires Chromium.
