## What uk-police-crime-mcp-server MCP server does

The uk-police-crime-mcp-server MCP server exposes six tools for querying records from data.police.uk. It covers the 43 territorial forces of England and Wales, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, and British Transport Police. British Transport Police station records are the only Scotland coverage described by the project.

Crime searches can target a one-mile radius around a point, a polygon, a map location, a neighbourhood, or crimes from a force that could not be placed. Searches return totals, category and outcome breakdowns, selected locations, and paginated records. Crime records include persistent IDs that can be used to retrieve outcome history.

The server also handles outcome searches, stop-and-search records, reference lookups, and neighbourhood team information. Neighbourhood results can include priorities, team details, events, stations, contact channels, and a boundary polygon.

## How it works

The tools query monthly police datasets and accept either a single month or, where supported, a range of up to 12 months. Crime and stop searches can report monthly totals and page through results. Stop searches also provide filterable breakdowns, publication indicators, and counts for records without a mapped location.

Use `ukcrime_list_reference` to inspect forces, crime categories, publication availability, or neighbourhood identifiers. Use `ukcrime_search_crimes` and `ukcrime_search_outcomes` for area-based records, then pass up to 25 crime persistent IDs to `ukcrime_get_crime_outcomes`. `ukcrime_find_neighbourhood` accepts coordinates or a force and neighbourhood ID.

The uk-police-crime-mcp-server MCP server supports STDIO and Streamable HTTP transports. A public hosted endpoint is available at `https://uk-police-crime.caseyjhand.com/mcp`.

## Setup and configuration

The repository provides an npm package and installation links for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and VS Code. The Cursor and VS Code installation examples invoke the package with `npx -y @cyanheads/uk-police-crime-mcp-server`. The project also publishes a Docker image and provides a downloadable MCPB package for Claude Desktop.

No required environment variables are specified in the supplied material. The underlying framework supports configurable authentication, storage backends, structured logging, and optional OpenTelemetry tracing, but the excerpt does not document a server-specific configuration procedure for those options.

## Tools and capabilities

- `ukcrime_list_reference`: inspect force IDs, categories, neighbourhood IDs, and data availability.
- `ukcrime_search_crimes`: search monthly street-level crimes with geographic or force-based areas and category totals.
- `ukcrime_search_outcomes`: list police outcomes recorded in an area and month.
- `ukcrime_get_crime_outcomes`: retrieve published outcome history for up to 25 persistent IDs.
- `ukcrime_search_stops`: query stop-and-search records with geographic, force, time, and demographic or operational filters.
- `ukcrime_find_neighbourhood`: identify the policing team for a point or neighbourhood ID.

## Limitations and notes

Data is monthly and availability varies by force and month. Police outcomes do not include court results, and some forces publish no outcomes. Anti-social behaviour records do not have persistent IDs. Unknown crime IDs are reported separately from failed lookups, allowing a batch to return partial results.

Locations are anonymised map points representing at least eight addresses; they are not the exact place where a crime or stop occurred. Neighbourhood team entries include rank and name, but not biographies or personal contact details. Areas and date ranges can fail when the requested area is too large, a month is unpublished, or a complete range cannot be fetched.
