## Documentation

## What tuney does

The tuney MCP server exposes Tuney's music workflow to MCP-compatible assistants and editors. It can search ready-made tracks by brief, genre, mood, or tempo, or generate new music from Tuney's musical elements. Generated tracks can be fitted to lengths from 5 seconds to 10 minutes.

The service is intended for royalty-free music used in videos, advertisements, podcasts, games, and apps. Results include previews and track details such as duration, BPM, key, style, and sections. The server also supports producing final downloads as MP3, WAV, or separate stems for melody, chords, bass, drums, and effects.

## How it works

Requests go to Tuney's remote MCP endpoint using streamable HTTP. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0 authorization code flow with PKCE and dynamic client registration. The user signs in to a Tuney account in a browser; the MCP server does not receive the account password.

Long-running generation and download operations can be followed with `get_task` or `wait_for_task`. Track information is available through `get_track`, while `adjust_track` can change duration, tempo, key, turning point, fade-out, short ending, or stem treatment. Downloading a final file consumes credits from the connected Tuney account. Searching, generating, adjusting, and listening to previews do not use credits.

## Setup and configuration

Use the tuney MCP server URL: `https://api.tuney.io/cue-engine2/connector/mcp`. Add it to an MCP client that supports streamable HTTP and OAuth 2.0 with dynamic client registration, then complete Tuney sign-in in the browser.

The README provides setup instructions for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT developer mode, Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, and Windsurf. Claude Code can use either the Tuney plugin or a direct HTTP MCP entry. Other clients can add the endpoint according to their MCP configuration format. Clients requiring a pre-registered client ID or static token are not supported.

A Tuney account is required and can be created at `app.tuney.io`. Disconnecting a client revokes its access to the account, but tracks already created remain in the account.

## Tools and capabilities

Available tools include:

- `list_styles` for supported genres, moods, and tempos.
- `find_tracks` for searching existing music and getting instant previews.
- `generate_track` for composing music to an exact duration.
- `get_task` and `wait_for_task` for tracking asynchronous work.
- `get_track` for metadata and preview information.
- `adjust_track` for changing structure, timing, musical properties, or stems.
- `download_track` for MP3, WAV, or stem download links.
- `get_account` for the connected account and credit balance.

## Limitations and notes

The tuney MCP server does not support clients that depend on static authentication tokens or pre-registered client IDs. Final downloads use account credits even though discovery, generation, adjustments, and previews do not. Music is governed by Tuney's terms, while the repository contents are MIT licensed. Tuney's privacy notice describes its handling of short-lived sessions and tokens and states that conversations are not stored.
