## What transcribe-app/mcp-transcribe MCP server does

The transcribe-app/mcp-transcribe MCP server gives AI assistants access to transcription workflows backed by Transcribe.com. It can submit audio or video for conversion to text, retrieve completed transcription content, check the account balance, and manage existing transcription names or records.

The service supports more than 100 languages, word-level timestamps, and speaker separation. Transcription results are stored with the account's cloud storage, and Transcribe.com team collaboration is supported.

## How it works

The server uses a private MCP integration URL associated with a Transcribe.com account. That URL is obtained from the Automation popup in the Transcribe online editor and passed to the server through the `MCP_INTEGRATION_URL` environment variable.

For local operation, `convert-to-text` can receive either a local filesystem path or a URL. A remote server expects the media URL to be publicly accessible. The conversion consumes account time credits, so an account balance is relevant before submitting files. The resulting text can be returned immediately by the conversion tool or accessed later through the transcription-reading tool once it is ready.

## Setup and configuration

Claude Desktop users can install the supplied MCPB bundle by opening the file or selecting it under Settings → Extensions.

Other assistants require Node.js, Git, and NPX. Add the repository as a local server using the `npx` command and set `MCP_INTEGRATION_URL` to the private URL from Transcribe.com. Keep that URL confidential; it is the credential used to connect the assistant to the account. If the server reports that the variable is missing, add it in the assistant's server configuration.

## Tools and capabilities

The transcribe-app/mcp-transcribe MCP server currently documents four tools:

- `convert-to-text`: submits an audio or video file and returns its text. Local installations can use a filesystem path or URL; remote operation requires a public URL.
- `get-balance`: reports the account's available balance.
- `read-transcriptions`: retrieves completed transcription content, with optional filtering and search.
- `update-transcription`: renames or deletes transcriptions in the Transcribe.com account.

## Limitations and notes

A private Transcribe.com integration URL and an account are required. The conversion tool uses time credits. Remote transcription cannot read an inaccessible local path because it expects a publicly reachable URL; use the local server when the source is only on the local filesystem. Node.js and Git are prerequisites for the non-Claude local setup. Claude Desktop installation also requires a current version if the extension does not install.
