## Description
Read a Tierward project's governance state (doctor, team-settings, arch-audit, skills) over MCP.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

## Documentation

## What the tierward MCP server does

The tierward MCP server gives MCP-aware AI clients a way to inspect governance information generated by Tierward. Its scope is project state rather than code editing or workflow enforcement. The available data covers four areas:

- The project’s doctor report
- Team-settings policy
- The latest architecture audit
- The project’s inventory of skills

This makes the server suitable for agents that need governance context before discussing project changes, reviewing architecture findings, or identifying available audit workflows. It does not replace Tierward’s CLI-based setup or the Claude Code process that applies pipeline rules and enforcement.

## How it works

Tierward ships the MCP server alongside its CLI. An MCP-compatible client connects to the server and requests the project’s current governance information through MCP tools. The server reads the relevant Tierward state and returns it to the client for inspection.

The broader Tierward framework uses tiered development pipelines, STOP gates, audit skills, and a Stop hook for Claude Code sessions. Those controls are separate from the MCP server’s inspection role.

The README identifies Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code as clients that can read Tierward governance state. ChatGPT does not have a corresponding compatible-client slug in this directory’s supported list.

## Setup and configuration

Tierward is distributed as an npm package and requires Node.js 22 or newer.

Because the MCP server reads a Tierward project’s existing state, initialize and scaffold the project before expecting governance reports, policy data, audit results, or skills to be available. The exact project path and client configuration should be taken from the repository’s current MCP instructions.

## Tools and capabilities

The tierward MCP server exposes tools for reading:

- Doctor status and report data
- Team-settings configuration
- The last arch-audit result
- The available Tierward skills

These capabilities support governance review from an AI client without manually running the Tierward CLI for every read.

## Limitations and notes

Tierward’s enforcement framework is explicitly Claude Code-first. Its Stop hook, pipeline rules, and audit skills rely on Claude Code primitives, so using the MCP server from another client does not make those enforcement mechanisms portable to that client.

The README names several MCP-aware clients for reading governance state, while separately stating that the main Tierward workflow does not support Cursor or other coding assistants. Treat those as different scopes: the tierward MCP server can expose state to listed MCP clients, but the full governed development process remains tied to Claude Code.
