## Documentation

## What thesvg does

thesvg exposes the theSVG brand library through the Model Context Protocol. The underlying collection contains more than 7,600 brand logos and cloud icons, including assets for platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, React, Vue, Svelte, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cloudflare.

The library focuses on SVG brand assets. Its broader ecosystem also supports using the icons through npm, a CDN, a CLI, React, Vue, Svelte, Figma, VS Code, Raycast, and other extensions. The MCP server is the option to use when an AI agent needs to find and work with those assets through MCP rather than through a visual browser or a framework-specific package.

## Tools and capabilities

The MCP integration is intended for searching the icon library and retrieving brand SVGs for use in development workflows. This makes it suitable for requests such as locating a logo by brand name, selecting an icon for generated interface code, or obtaining an SVG asset to place in a project.

The available collection includes both general technology brands and cloud-provider iconography. Examples shown by the project include Google, Docker, Kubernetes, React, Vue, Svelte, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Figma, Stripe, Slack, Discord, Spotify, Supabase, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cloudflare, Terraform, AWS, and Microsoft Azure.

The same assets can be consumed in several formats elsewhere in the project, but the MCP use case centers on making the library available to an MCP-capable agent. The package published for this integration is `@thesvg/mcp-server`.

## Setup and configuration

The MCP server is published as the `@thesvg/mcp-server` npm package. Add that package to the MCP configuration used by the client or agent that will call it, following that client’s normal procedure for registering npm-based MCP servers.

The project identifies the library and MCP integration as free and open source under the MIT license. The wider thesvg project also provides a web library at thesvg.org, where the icon collection can be browsed independently of an agent workflow.

No API key or account requirement is presented for the library. The project describes access as open, with no gatekeeping, and provides the assets through multiple distribution channels including npm and CDN.
