## Documentation

## What tengu-firm does

The tengu-firm MCP server gives AI agents access to Wealthnow’s hosted financial-data catalogue. The available data spans market prices, cryptocurrency quotes, company fundamentals, SEC filings, insider transactions, 13F institutional holdings, congressional trades, transcripts, credit data, private-market records, options history, macro data, and other research datasets described by the provider.

The listed tools include `tengu_snapshot` for a live ticker price snapshot, `tengu_crypto` for real-time quotes across 439 cryptocurrency pairs, `tengu_insider_clusters` for finding companies with several insiders buying around the same period, and `tengu_v3_fundamentals_full` for income-statement, balance-sheet, cash-flow, and other fundamental metrics. The server is read-only for market data: it does not place trades or move money.

## How it works

Wealthnow exposes the MCP endpoint at `https://mcp.wealthnow.io/mcp` using Streamable HTTP. An MCP-compatible application connects to that URL, authenticates with Wealthnow, and then presents the permitted tools to the agent. OAuth 2.1 is the standard sign-in path: the client opens Wealthnow’s login page and returns to the application after authentication.

The catalogue is filtered by account and plan. A normal connection initially exposes account status and a limited starter set, while adding `?catalog=full` requests the full public tool catalogue. The provider states that the free plan includes 1,000 monthly credits and covers market data, fundamentals, and SEC filings. Other datasets, including credit, private-market, and options-history data, may require a paid plan.

## Setup and configuration

Add the remote MCP URL to a compatible client, then complete the Wealthnow sign-in flow. The README provides setup instructions for Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT, and other MCP applications. Claude Code uses its HTTP transport with the Wealthnow endpoint; Cursor and Codex can register the same URL directly.

OAuth is not the only option. Applications that cannot complete OAuth can send an API key in the `X-API-Key` header. The README shows this approach for VS Code, Gemini CLI, Goose, OpenCode, and other clients. Keep the key in user-level configuration or secure storage rather than committing it to a project file. No environment variable is required when using the documented OAuth flow.

## Tools and capabilities

The tengu-firm MCP server supports research workflows such as:

- Looking up a current stock or cryptocurrency price.
- Reviewing full company financial statements and calculated metrics.
- Finding coordinated insider purchases.
- Examining institutional 13F changes and congressional trading activity.
- Querying SEC filings, transcripts, events, options data, credit markets, and private-company relationships when the account plan includes them.

The provider describes point-in-time fundamentals, as-reported XBRL, historical prices, and other datasets intended to preserve the information available at a given time. That distinction may matter for historical analysis and backtesting.

## Limitations and notes

The README describes the service as financial data and structured signals, not investment advice. Tool availability depends on the Wealthnow account and plan, and the initial tool list may not include every public tool. The supplied listing mentions 336 tools, while the README describes more than 370 REST endpoints across its data products; treat the account’s catalogue as the authoritative list for a particular connection.

The service is hosted rather than a local data server, so requests depend on endpoint availability and authentication. API-key users must protect their credentials. The README also notes that some client-specific OAuth flows may require an API-key fallback, including OpenCode until its stated client issue is resolved.
