## Description
Construction takeoff calculators (concrete, gravel, asphalt, roofing) and sourced constants.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **calc_concrete_slab** — Concrete volume, order quantity, bags, truck loads and weight for a slab, with extra sections and an optional thickened edge.
- **calc_concrete_cost** — Concrete cost from your own delivered price, with short-load fee, delivery, and bags compared with ready-mix.
- **calc_rebar** — Bar count each way, lap splices, stock bars, weight, intersections and supports for a slab grid or a continuous footing.
- **calc_gravel** — Cubic yards, short tons and metric tonnes of gravel, stone or rock, with the compaction conversion and a truck count.
- **calc_fill_dirt** — Cubic yards, tons and truck loads of fill dirt, loose or in place.
- **calc_sand** — Cubic yards, short tons and a bag count for sand, by moisture condition.
- **calc_topsoil** — Cubic yards, bags, weight and coverage of topsoil for a lawn, a top-dressing pass, a garden bed or a raised box.
- **calc_cubic_yard** — Cubic yards, cubic feet and cubic meters over several areas, the area a volume covers, swell, bags and truck trips.
- **calc_asphalt** — Short tons and metric tonnes of hot mix by course and by area, with the spread rate.
- **calc_board_foot** — Board feet, lineal feet, pieces and cost for a lumber order of several sizes.
- **calc_roofing** — Squares, shingle bundles, underlayment rolls, ridge cap and starter from the plan footprint and the pitch.
- **calc_roof_pitch** — Rise in 12, angle, grade and slope factor from any one of them, plus ridge height and common rafter length from a span.
- **calc_fence** — Posts, rails, pickets, gates and post-hole concrete for a fence line.
- **calc_duct** — Round and rectangular duct size from airflow and a friction rate or velocity limit, what a duct carries, and a reducing trunk.
- **calc_paver_base** — Crushed stone base, bedding sand and excavation depth under a paver patio, driveway or street.

## Documentation

## What TakeoffMetric Construction Calculators does

The TakeoffMetric Construction Calculators MCP server makes construction estimating forms available as MCP tools. It covers concrete slabs and costs, reinforcing steel, gravel, fill dirt, sand, topsoil, general cubic-yard calculations, asphalt, lumber, roofing, roof pitch, fencing, duct sizing, and paver bases.

Results are returned as JSON text. Responses identify the calculator and source URL, report the selected unit system, include normalized inputs, and separate primary results from secondary values and takeoff items. They may also include warnings, assumptions, and a list of inputs still needed before a complete result can be produced.

## How it works

The server bundles the site's TypeScript calculation engine in `vendor/engine.mjs`. Calculator schemas are generated when the process starts from the engine's input definitions, so accepted keys, ranges, choices, and defaults follow the corresponding TakeoffMetric form.

Inputs can use imperial or metric units. Imperial is the default, and a length may be supplied as a number in the documented unit or as a unit-bearing string such as `20 ft 6 in`. Missing values use the engine's normal defaults unless a publisher-restricted constant has intentionally been withheld. Invalid keys and out-of-range values produce an error instead of silently clamping the input.

The separate `search_constants` tool searches a bundled constants table by text and/or category, returning up to 50 matching rows. Rows include their source information; some values are withheld when republication is not permitted.

## Setup and configuration

The TakeoffMetric Construction Calculators MCP server requires Node.js 20 or newer. Start it with:

```bash
npx -y takeoffmetric-mcp
```

For Claude Desktop, add a server entry whose command is `npx` and whose argument list is `-y takeoffmetric-mcp`. Claude Code can register the same command with `claude mcp add takeoffmetric -- npx -y takeoffmetric-mcp`. The material does not specify environment variables or additional configuration files.

## Tools and capabilities

The 15 calculator tools provide outputs such as:

- Concrete volume, order quantity, bags, truck loads, weight, and cost.
- Rebar quantities, laps, stock bars, weight, intersections, and supports.
- Aggregate, soil, sand, topsoil, asphalt, and paver-base quantities in relevant units.
- Board feet, lineal feet, pieces, and lumber cost.
- Roofing quantities, pitch conversions, ridge height, and rafter length.
- Fence components, post-hole concrete, duct dimensions, and reducing trunks.

`list_calculators` reports each calculator's name, title, page URL, description, and input keys. `search_constants` provides a way to inspect estimating constants and their published sources.

## Limitations and notes

The TakeoffMetric Construction Calculators MCP server does not republish certain supplier or publisher values as defaults. Depending on the calculator, you may need to provide bag yield, material density, asphalt plant weight, rebar stock length, roofing package coverage, or duct roughness. When such data is absent, the tool can return partial calculations and identify missing fields in `needed`.

The calculators apply the formulas, rounding rules, assumptions, and warnings from the bundled engine. Project dimensions, reinforcement, material properties, and code-dependent choices remain the responsibility of the user. The README identifies the server as stdio-based and documents Claude Desktop and Claude Code setup.
