## Description
Live supplement prices per kg, serving or capsule from Dutch and Belgian stores. Free, no API key.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **find_cheapest** — Products in a category and all its subcategories, ordered by lowest price per unit. Start here.
- **list_categories** — The category tree, each category with a live product count, store count and lowest unit price. Use it to find a `category_slug`.
- **search_products** — Typo-tolerant search across the whole catalogue by product name or brand.
- **get_product** — One product in full: price, unit price, size, bulk discount tiers, buy link and recent price history.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "supplementscanner": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","supplementscanner-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "SUPPLEMENTSCANNER_MARKET": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `SUPPLEMENTSCANNER_MARKET` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What Supplementscanner MCP server does

Supplementscanner MCP server provides a read-only view of supplement prices collected from web stores in the Netherlands and Belgium. It normalizes products within their category so assistants can compare prices by kilogram for powders, or by serving or capsule for other products. The service returns prices in euros and identifies the selected market with `nl` for the Netherlands or `be` for Belgium.

The hosted service is free and does not require an API key, account, or sign-up. It is useful for questions such as finding the least expensive whey isolate per kilogram, comparing vitamin D3 capsules by capsule price, or checking whether a product’s price has changed recently.

## How it works

The service is exposed through a streamable HTTP MCP endpoint. The shared endpoint is `https://mcp.supplementscanner.eu`; country-specific endpoints are also available at `https://mcp.supplementscanner.nl` and `https://mcp.supplementscanner.be`. The shared endpoint defaults to the Netherlands unless a request supplies `market: "be"`.

Prices are refreshed continuously, with frequently viewed products checked more often. Every response includes `last_scraped_at`, allowing an assistant to report when the underlying data was last scanned. Values are returned as integer cents alongside a market-formatted price string. Products without a readable pack size do not receive an inferred unit price.

Buy links are affiliate links, and responses containing prices include an `affiliate_disclosure` value. Affiliate commissions do not affect the ordering of results.

## Setup and configuration

For clients that support remote MCP connections, add the hosted endpoint directly and do not configure authentication. The README provides connection examples for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT developer mode, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Cline, Gemini CLI, and Codex CLI.

Clients that only launch local commands can use the `supplementscanner-mcp` npm package as a stdio bridge. The bridge requires Node.js 18 or later, forwards messages to the hosted service, and contains no comparison logic. It uses the European endpoint by default. Pass `be` as an argument or set `SUPPLEMENTSCANNER_MARKET` to select the Belgian market.

## Tools and capabilities

Supplementscanner MCP server exposes four read-only tools:

- `find_cheapest` searches a category and its subcategories, ordering products by lowest unit price. It supports market selection, result limits, and in-stock filtering.
- `list_categories` returns the category tree with live product counts, store counts, and the lowest unit price. Use it to obtain a `category_slug`.
- `search_products` performs typo-tolerant searches by product name or brand. It supports category, maximum unit price, stock, market, and result-limit filters.
- `get_product` returns one product’s price, unit price, pack size, bulk discount tiers, purchase link, and recent price history.

The catalogue covers stores in the Netherlands and Belgium. A JSON API is also available separately at `https://api.supplementscanner.eu/v1`, with an OpenAPI document at its corresponding `/openapi.json` path.

## Limitations and notes

The service covers only the Netherlands and Belgium, and the returned prices are in euros. Store coverage changes over time; `list_categories` reports the current store count for each category. Results represent scanned web-store data rather than guaranteed checkout prices, so consumers should use the supplied timestamp and purchase link when verifying a decision.

The repository’s code and documentation use the MIT license, but the hosted price data is not covered by that license.
