## Description
MCP server for Yandex Wordstat API — keyword research for Russian/CIS markets

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **get-regions-tree** — Get the Yandex Wordstat regions hierarchy tree. Use when the user needs Yandex region ids and the hierarchy before filtering other Wordstat calls. Do not use it to measure how often a phrase is searched; call top-requests, dynamics, or regions for demand.
- **get-region-children** — Get children of a specific region from cached tree. Use when the user already has one region id and wants only that region children, not the whole tree. Do not use it for phrase demand; call top-requests or regions, and call get-regions-tree to browse from the root.
- **top-requests** — Find popular search queries containing a keyword (last 30 days), with associated queries. Use when the user asks how often people search a phrase on Yandex in the last 30 days and which related queries appear. Do not use it for a multi-month trend; call dynamics. Do not use it for region ids; call get-regions-tree.
- **dynamics** — Analyze search volume trends over time for a keyword. Window rules enforced by the API: daily covers only the last 59 days; weekly must start on a Monday and end on a Sunday; monthly must span whole months. Dates outside those rules are snapped to the nearest valid window and the shift is reported. Use when the user asks whether demand for one phrase is growing or falling over days, weeks, or months. Do not use it for the list of related queries; call top-requests. Do not use it to compare regions; call regions.
- **regions** — Get regional distribution of search interest for a keyword. Use when the user asks which regions search a phrase the most, or wants volume and affinity by region. Do not use it to browse the region tree; call get-regions-tree. Do not use it for a time trend; call dynamics.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "yandex-wordstat-mcp": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@stufently/yandex-wordstat-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "WORDSTAT_API_KEY": "",
      "WORDSTAT_FOLDER_ID": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `WORDSTAT_API_KEY`, `WORDSTAT_FOLDER_ID` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What @stufently/yandex-wordstat-mcp does

@stufently/yandex-wordstat-mcp connects an MCP-compatible AI assistant to Yandex Wordstat through the Yandex Cloud Search API v2. Its scope is keyword research, with five tools exposed for working with Wordstat data. The package is intended for analysis focused on Russian and CIS markets, where Yandex search behavior is relevant.

The package is separate from the repository’s other Yandex MCP servers. Those cover search, Webmaster, Metrika, and Direct APIs; installing the Wordstat package provides the Wordstat tools only.

## How it works

The server communicates with clients over standard input and output. A client starts the package as a Node.js process, and the MCP connection makes its five Wordstat tools available to the assistant. No repository checkout, local build, or Bun installation is needed for the npx installation path.

Authentication uses a Yandex Cloud API key and a Yandex Cloud folder ID. The server reads these values from environment variables when a tool call requires access. It can start without the variables, but the first tool call fails if the required configuration is absent.

## Setup and configuration

Node.js 22 or newer is required. The package can be started directly from a shell:

```bash
WORDSTAT_API_KEY=your-cloud-api-key WORDSTAT_FOLDER_ID=your-folder-id npx -y @stufently/yandex-wordstat-mcp
```

MCP clients can use the same command with `WORDSTAT_API_KEY` and `WORDSTAT_FOLDER_ID` in the server’s environment configuration. Claude Code has both project configuration and command-line registration examples, while Claude Desktop can launch the package through its MCP configuration. Cursor, Windsurf, and Zed configurations are also documented in the project’s client setup.

Use the scoped package name exactly as shown. The unscoped `yandex-wordstat-mcp` name belongs to a different publisher, so it should not be substituted when credentials are present in the environment.

To avoid resolving a different package version on every start, append a package version to the scoped npx name. The unversioned command resolves the latest release available under the `@stufently` scope.

## Tools and capabilities

The package exposes five MCP tools for Yandex Wordstat keyword research. Together, they provide the interface an agent needs to query Wordstat data for keyword analysis. The repository identifies the underlying service as Yandex Wordstat through the Cloud Search API v2.

Typical uses include examining search demand, developing keyword sets, and supporting Russian- or CIS-focused market research. The available tools are intended for Wordstat analysis rather than site monitoring, web traffic reporting, or advertising campaign management; those functions belong to the repository’s separate Webmaster, Metrika, and Direct packages.

## Limitations and notes

The Wordstat package requires access to the relevant Yandex Cloud credentials and a configured folder ID. Its documented runtime path is stdio, and the package requires Node.js 22 or newer. Client support should be understood separately from verification: Claude Code use is reported as verified on the maintainer’s Ubuntu host, while Codex is configured but not checked separately. Cursor, Windsurf, and Zed are documented configurations rather than end-to-end verified clients.

The package is one component of a larger monorepo. Installing it does not expose the other Yandex API groups or their tools.
