## Description
Manage Apache Kafka on Kubernetes via Strimzi. Clusters, topics, users, connectors, MM2.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `uvx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "strimzi-kafka-cli": {
    "command": "uvx",
    "args": ["strimzi-kafka-cli"]
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What strimzi-kafka-cli MCP server does

The strimzi-kafka-cli MCP server connects an MCP-compatible AI assistant to Apache Kafka deployments managed by Strimzi on Kubernetes. It provides operations for the main Strimzi custom resources and selected Kafka administration tasks, allowing an assistant to inspect state, create resources, change configurations, and remove resources through named tools.

The available tool groups cover Kafka clusters, topics, users, Kafka Connect clusters, connectors, MirrorMaker2 resources, backups, ACLs, the Strimzi operator, Kafka node pools, and version information. Backup and restore operations are available for Kafka resources and Kafka Connect resources. The server is part of the broader `strimzi-kafka-cli` command-line package, whose commands also include console producer and consumer functions.

## How it works

Run `kfk mcp` after installing the package with MCP support. The MCP process uses the Python Kubernetes client to communicate directly with the Kubernetes cluster. Strimzi resources are downloaded automatically when the first `kfk` command is executed, so the CLI can work with the resource definitions required by the installed workflow.

The tool set includes list, get, create, alter, and delete operations where the resource supports them. Kafka cluster tools also expose cluster status and configuration changes. Separate tools handle ACL changes, operator installation and removal, node-pool management, and version reporting.

## Setup and configuration

The project requires Python 3.11 or newer. Install the package with pip or pipx. For pip, use the MCP extra: `pip install strimzi-kafka-cli[mcp] --user`. With pipx, use `pipx install strimzi-kafka-cli[mcp]`. Homebrew installation includes MCP support by default after tapping `systemcraftsman/strimzi-kafka-cli`.

Start the server with:

```bash
kfk mcp
```

The documented Claude Code registration command is:

```bash
claude mcp add strimzi-kafka-cli -- kfk mcp
```

## Tools and capabilities

The strimzi-kafka-cli MCP server exposes these capability areas:

- Kafka clusters: listing, inspection, status checks, creation, deletion, and configuration changes.
- Topics and users: lifecycle operations plus topic or user inspection and alteration.
- Kafka Connect: management of Connect clusters and connectors.
- MirrorMaker2: listing, inspection, creation, and deletion.
- Backup: saving and restoring Kafka and Connect resources.
- ACLs: adding or removing ACL entries.
- Platform resources: installing or uninstalling the Strimzi operator and managing Kafka node pools.
- Version: reporting the CLI version.

## Limitations and notes

It also links to examples for TLS authentication, ACL authorization, configuration, and Kafka Connect without defining those examples as MCP configuration requirements.
