## Documentation

## What StatementSure MCP server does

StatementSure MCP server turns bank and credit card statement PDFs into structured transaction data and import files. It can inspect a statement's bank, account identifier suffix, reporting period, balances, totals, and balance checks before producing an export. Supported output formats are QuickBooks Online (`qbo`), QuickBooks CSV, Xero, OFX, CSV, and Excel (`xlsx`).

The conversion checks whether the opening balance, transactions, and closing balance agree. It also checks running balances and section totals, identifying rows that need review when a statement does not reconcile. The tool can process layouts from different banks without requiring a bank-specific template. The README reports testing on RBC, TD, CIBC, and Scotiabank statements in English and French, along with common US and UK formats.

## How it works

Install the package with Node.js 22 or newer and register it as a local stdio MCP server. In the client, provide a file or folder path on the computer rather than attaching PDFs to the chat. The agent can then request a validation report, retrieve transactions, or create exports beside the source PDFs.

Password-protected PDFs are supported; the agent asks for the password when needed. Scanned, image-only PDFs are not supported yet. The process is local and the README states that it makes no network calls, so statement files are not uploaded by the server.

## Setup and configuration

For Claude Code, register the server with:

```bash
claude mcp add statementsure -- npx -y statementsure-mcp
```

For Claude Desktop, Cursor, or another MCP client, add a server entry using `npx` as the command, `-y` and `statementsure-mcp` as its arguments, then restart the client. The package also includes an optional agent skill that describes a check-first workflow. Claude Code users can copy its folder to `~/.claude/skills/`; Claude Desktop users can upload a zip of the skill folder under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

Usage is limited to 20 free pages per month, where only pages containing transactions count. Re-exporting the same PDF during the same month is free, and statements that fail balance checks are also free. Additional pages are available through page packs from StatementSure. Usage data is stored at `~/.statementsure/usage.json`.

## Tools and capabilities

- `check_statements` reports statement metadata, balances, totals, individual balance checks, and rows requiring attention. It does not consume pages.
- `get_transactions` returns transaction dates, descriptions, signed amounts, and running balances. It uses pages.
- `export_statements` writes one file per account next to the PDFs in `qbo`, `qb-csv`, `xero`, `ofx`, `csv`, or `xlsx` format. Existing files are not overwritten, and the operation uses pages.
- `usage` reports the remaining free pages for the month.

## Limitations and notes

StatementSure MCP server is proprietary software. The package permits installation and use for converting the user's own statements, but the license prohibits copying, modification, redistribution, and reverse engineering. The page counter is local, while larger workloads require purchasing more page capacity. Statements with layouts outside the tested formats may require manual review, especially when balance checks flag specific rows.
