## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **stat_ee_find_table** — Search Statistics Estonia (Statistikaamet) for ESTONIA official statistics tables by plain-English keyword — "average monthly wage", "population", "GDP", "unemployment", "consumer price index", "births", "exports". Returns each matching table with its full ready-to-use path, its English label chain (e.g. "Economy > Wages and salaries and labour costs > Wages and salaries"), and whether it is a folder or a table. START HERE for any question about Estonian data. Set fetch_latest:true to also return the most recent figures from the top-matching table in one call — useful for "what is the current X in Estonia" questions. Otherwise hand the returned path to table_meta, then query_table, to get the figures. Searches English labels, so English words find the table even though the path ids themselves are Estonian slugs.
- **estonia_average_wage** — Estonia's average and MEDIAN monthly gross wage in ONE call, from Statistics Estonia (Statistikaamet, table PA111), keyless, with the recent quarterly trend. PREFER for "what is the average wage in Estonia", "Estonian salary", "average monthly wage in Estonia according to official statistics", "are Estonian wages rising". GROSS (before income tax and the employee's share of contributions) and per EMPLOYEE POSITION, so somebody holding two jobs is counted twice. Use subjects/table_meta/query_table for breakdowns by economic activity or county.
- **subjects** — Browse Statistics Estonia (Statistikaamet) official ESTONIA national statistics — the subject tree of available tables, one level at a time. Items are type "l" (folder) or "t" (table, id ends in .px). Handy for listing everything under a path you already know; to go straight from an English question ("average monthly wage in Estonia") to a table path in one call, use stat_ee_find_table. Follow either with table_meta + query_table to pull the actual figures.
- **table_meta** — Table definition (dimensions, valid values) for a Statistics Estonia table. Use these to build a filtered query_table call.
- **query_table** — Pull ESTONIA official statistics figures from a Statistics Estonia (Statistikaamet) table — wages, population, GDP, prices, unemployment. body is a PxWeb query object; get valid dimension values from table_meta first. Filter selections to stay under the ~100k-cell limit.

## What the Stat Ee MCP server does

The Stat Ee MCP server exposes Statistics Estonia’s official national statistics through MCP. It works with data published by Statistikaamet at andmed.stat.ee and does not require an API key. The available subject areas include wages, population, GDP, prices, unemployment, births, and exports.

The search workflow starts with `stat_ee_find_table`, which accepts plain-English terms such as “average monthly wage” or “consumer price index.” Results include a usable table path, an English label hierarchy, and an indication of whether each result is a folder or a table. The optional `fetch_latest` setting also retrieves recent figures from the top matching table.

## How it works

For a targeted lookup, search for a table first, then pass its path to `table_meta`. Metadata describes the table’s dimensions and permitted values. Use those values to construct a PxWeb request for `query_table`. Queries should be kept below the approximately 100,000-cell response limit.

The `subjects` tool provides another way to navigate the Statistics Estonia catalog. It returns one level of the subject tree at a time, with folders marked as `l` and tables marked as `t`; table identifiers end in `.px`. This is useful when the relevant path is already known, while English-language discovery is better handled by `stat_ee_find_table`.

For common wage questions, `estonia_average_wage` is a shorter route. It reads table PA111 and returns average and median monthly gross wage plus a recent quarterly trend. The figures are gross, before income tax and the employee’s contribution share, and are reported per employee position, so a person with multiple jobs can be counted more than once.

The Stat Ee MCP server can be connected through the hosted Pipeworx endpoint:

The hosted connection also lists shared Pipeworx meta-tools, including `ask_pipeworx`, `discover_tools`, `search_within`, and memory tools. The exact tool scope is reported by the connection’s `initialize` response. `ask_pipeworx` can route plain-English questions across the wider Pipeworx catalog.

Running `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-stat-ee` starts the local MCP process. The standalone process exposes only this pack’s tools and does not add the gateway meta-tools. The hosted endpoint and the local package use the same source and tools.

## Limitations and notes

The data source is Estonia’s official statistics catalog, so queries should be framed around Estonian national statistics. The wage shortcut is specific to table PA111 and is not the right choice for county or economic-activity breakdowns; use metadata and a filtered table query for those cases. PxWeb selections must use valid dimension values returned by `table_meta`, and large selections may exceed the roughly 100,000-cell limit. The project is licensed under MIT.
