## Documentation

## What Stash: Remember Everything does

Stash: Remember Everything MCP server gives Claude access to an AI notebook for personal notes. Stash can contain links, screenshots, photos, and rough thoughts that the notebook converts into structured notes with titles, summaries, sections, tags, and sources. Through MCP, Claude can search saved notes, open a note, create a new note, and use note content in supported workflows.

The server supports four main note-oriented workflows. Search finds relevant notes and retrieves their summarized content. Saving sends new text to Stash, which creates a note and summarizes it in the background. With Stash Pro, the ask capability answers questions across the notebook and does not use web search for the answer itself.

## How it works

The plugin declares a remote MCP server at `https://stash.graftedsoftware.com/mcp` and includes three Markdown-based skills. Claude sends tool calls to the remote service, including searches, note text requested for saving, and note IDs. OAuth authentication is granted when Claude first calls a Stash tool; the user signs in with the same Apple or Google account used in the Stash app.

Available tool mappings include `stash_search` and `stash_get` for searching and reading, `stash_create` and `stash_get` for saving and summarizing, and `stash_ask` for cross-note questions. Additional tools include `stash_me`, `stash_update`, `stash_delete`, and `stash_research`. The skills only update or delete a note when the user identifies the note and confirms the action.

## Setup and configuration

Install Stash from the App Store and sign in with Apple or Google. Install the plugin, then allow access when the Stash sign-in page opens during the first tool call. Review the requested scopes on the consent screen before selecting Allow. No local application code or environment variable configuration is described; the plugin uses the hosted MCP endpoint and OAuth token.

Free accounts can search, read, and save notes. They include 30 summaries and five research reports per month, with limits resetting on the first day of each month in UTC. Asking questions across notes requires Stash Pro.

## Tools and capabilities

The Stash: Remember Everything MCP server exposes these documented capabilities:

- Search notes and retrieve note content with `stash_search` and `stash_get`.
- Create saved notes with `stash_create`.
- Ask questions across notes with `stash_ask` for Stash Pro accounts.
- Identify the connected Stash account with `stash_me`.
- Update or delete notes with `stash_update` and `stash_delete`.
- Use `stash_research` for research reports subject to the account allowance.

## Limitations and notes

Notes are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, but storage is not zero-knowledge: the service decrypts notes to run tools. For summarization, research, and question answering, note text is sent to Anthropic through OpenRouter. Summaries and research also use OpenRouter web search. The service sends up to 2,000 characters of a note to TypeSafe through OpenRouter to decide whether a summary should use web search.

Audit logs record the action, note ID, and client ID, but not note bodies or search text. Access can be revoked by removing the connector in Claude or deleting the Stash account in the app. Privacy and terms are provided at the Stash legal URLs, and support is available by email from Grafted Software.
