## Description
Turn TikTok, Instagram, X and Facebook URLs into video download links and metadata.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "soclip": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","soclip-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "SOCLIP_API_KEY": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `SOCLIP_API_KEY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What soclip MCP server does

The soclip MCP server exposes Soclip API functions through the Model Context Protocol. It accepts a video URL from TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, or Facebook and returns direct video download links together with detailed metadata. This makes it suitable for AI assistants that need to inspect or retrieve media from supported social platforms without implementing separate platform-specific API handling.

The project belongs in the Social Media category and is intended for MCP-compatible assistants such as Claude Desktop and Cursor. It does not describe general-purpose social publishing, account management, posting, or content scheduling features.

## How it works

The server runs as an npm package through `npx`, using the package name `soclip-mcp`. An MCP client starts the process and passes the configured Soclip API key to it. When an assistant calls the media tool, the server sends the supplied URL to Soclip and returns the available direct media URL and metadata.

The main extraction operation costs two credits, listed as $0.002 per request. A separate balance operation reports the remaining credits on the associated Soclip account. The server therefore requires an active Soclip account and API key for normal use.

## Setup and configuration

Create an API key through the Soclip service before configuring the client. For Claude Desktop, add an `mcpServers` entry that runs `npx -y soclip-mcp` and sets `SOCLIP_API_KEY` in the process environment. Cursor uses the same command and environment-variable pattern in `.cursor/mcp.json` or its MCP settings.

The soclip MCP server can also read a key saved by the Soclip CLI. If `SOCLIP_API_KEY` is not included in the MCP client environment, it checks `~/.soclip/config.json` when the key was previously stored with `soclip config set-key <key>`.

## Tools and capabilities

- `get_video_media`: accepts one required `url` string and extracts direct video download URLs plus detailed metadata for supported social video links.
- `get_balance`: takes no parameters and returns the current remaining credit balance.
- Supports TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, and Facebook video URLs.
- Runs as an MCP process launched with `npx`.

## Limitations and notes

The documented media input is limited to video links from TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, and Facebook. Each media extraction request uses two account credits. The provided documentation does not describe audio extraction, media uploading, downloads performed by the server itself, or support for additional platforms.

The soclip MCP server is distributed under the MIT License. Its operation depends on the Soclip API and a valid account key, so API availability, account balance, and Soclip’s supported URL handling affect results.
