## What siGit MCP server does

siGit MCP server brings siGit project data and actions into coding-agent workflows through the Model Context Protocol. Its tool set covers four main areas: repository browsing, code search, pull request management, issue management, and web search. This makes it suitable for agents that need to inspect a codebase, locate relevant implementation details, review repository work, or update collaboration items without leaving the agent session.

The integration is aimed at development tasks rather than general-purpose data access. A coding agent can use repository context to answer questions about a project, search for symbols or text across code, and work with the pull requests and issues associated with that project.

## How it works

An MCP-compatible client exposes the siGit tools to an AI agent. The agent selects the relevant operation based on the task: repository browsing for project structure and files, code search for locating implementation details, pull request or issue tools for collaboration workflows, and web search for information beyond the repository.

siGit Code is also described as a local-first coding-agent runtime. It runs locally by default, can use optional cloud or remote inference, and communicates with ACP-compatible editors over stdio when started with `--acp`. Its broader runtime supports connecting to MCP servers over stdio and Streamable HTTP, allowing MCP tools to participate in editor-based agent sessions.

siGit Code can be installed through Cargo, Homebrew, pip, uv, npm, NuGet, winget, Scoop, AUR, Debian/Ubuntu packages, or Fedora/RHEL packages. Its first launch downloads a GGUF model from Hugging Face, typically requiring about 1–2 GB of storage. On-device operation does not require an API key. The project is licensed under Apache-2.0.
