## What shopify-multi-store does

The shopify-multi-store MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI client access to multiple Shopify Admin stores from one connection. Each store is configured with a permanent alias and its own credential, so requests identify the store or stores they should use.

Read operations include store identity, access scopes, products, collections, orders, customers, publications, redirects, pages, files, metaobjects, markets, themes, and delivery profiles. The server also exposes ready-made reports for portfolio snapshots, order summaries, customer growth, catalog comparison, inventory gaps, price differences, duplicate SKUs, unfulfilled orders, fulfillment SLAs, collection comparison, and catalog health.

Write operations cover prices, inventory, products, collections, discounts, images, metafields, redirects, tags, orders, customers, and fulfillments. These capabilities make the server relevant to the 🛒 E-Commerce category when an agent needs to inspect or maintain several Shopify stores.

## How it works

The shopify-multi-store MCP server runs as a local stdio process by default. An MCP client starts the package with `npx -y shopify-multi-store-mcp-server start`, then invokes the exposed tools. Claude Code has a dedicated add command, while Claude Desktop, Cursor, and VS Code use MCP configuration entries.

Every store operation requires a configured alias. `shopify_list_stores` shows the available aliases, and `shopify_check_access` reports granted scopes and identifies operations that would fail. Read-only reports and GraphQL queries can target one store or several. One parallel GraphQL read can run across up to 100 stores.

Mutations are designed around explicit targeting and authorization. Price updates support up to 250 SKUs across one or more stores, inventory changes use compare-and-set protection, and generic Admin mutations can be discovered, described, and run through the action tools. A read-only GraphQL query is also available for custom retrieval and schema exploration.

## Setup and configuration

Install the package globally and initialize the connection with the setup command:

The setup flow connects stores and keeps their credentials separate. Credential storage uses macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or Linux Secret Service. Store staff permissions continue to determine which operations a user can perform.

For Claude Code, register the process with:

Other MCP clients can use `npx` with `-y shopify-multi-store-mcp-server start` as the command arguments. The repository also includes a client skill that can be copied into supported skill directories to guide tool selection.

## Limitations and notes

The shopify-multi-store MCP server requires Shopify Admin credentials and sufficient scopes for the requested operation. The access-check tool can identify missing permissions, but it does not grant them. Analytics reports require the `read_reports` scope.

Generic GraphQL mutations and other changes should be used only with exact authorization and the intended store selection. Inventory writes include compare-and-set protection, while price updates are limited to 250 SKUs per operation. Shopify Dev MCP is complementary: it provides developer documentation and schemas, whereas this server operates connected Admin stores.
