## Description
Free QR codes with no API key, plus short links whose printed QR can be re-pointed later.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **shorten_url** — Creates a short link plus its QR code. Optional `customCode`, `title` and `utm`. Destinations are screened against Google Safe Browsing.
- **shorten_urls_bulk** — Up to 25 links in one call, with per-item results so one bad URL does not discard the rest.
- **list_links** — Lists your links with click counts — filter by kind or search term, sort by newest or most clicked.
- **get_link** — Destination, title, clicks, creation date and UTM settings for one link.
- **get_link_analytics** — Clicks over time, plus breakdowns by country, device, OS, browser and referrer.
- **get_link_qr** — The QR code of an existing link, using the artwork saved on it (frames, colours, logo) when there is one.
- **delete_link** — Permanent, and it releases the short code. Needs an explicit `confirm`.
- **get_account** — Plan, entitlements and how much API quota is left this month. Worth calling before a bulk run.

## What ShareCut QR & Short Links MCP server does

ShareCut QR & Short Links MCP server gives an MCP client access to ShareCut’s QR and short-link functions. It can render static QR codes, create trackable short links, inspect existing links, retrieve click analytics, and manage destinations associated with an account. A short link can remain fixed while its destination changes, so a QR code printed on a poster, menu, label, or business card can continue to work after a campaign or website migration.

The service also screens destinations submitted to `shorten_url` with Google Safe Browsing. Short codes can be custom when creating a link, but the README states that the code itself is immutable when updating an existing link.

## How it works

The package acts as a thin bridge between an MCP client and `https://sharecut.site/mcp`. In stdio mode, it forwards newline-delimited JSON-RPC messages to the remote ShareCut endpoint and returns the responses. A remote HTTP configuration can connect directly to the hosted MCP endpoint instead.

The ShareCut QR & Short Links MCP server supports three free operations without an account or API key: creating a static QR code, expanding a ShareCut short link, and checking whether a custom short code is available. Static QR content contains its destination directly and cannot be redirected later. Account-linked operations use the account associated with `SHARECUT_API_KEY`.

## Setup and configuration

For Claude, the hosted endpoint can be added with an HTTP MCP configuration pointing to `https://sharecut.site/mcp`. The package can also be started with `npx sharecut-mcp`, then registered as a stdio server in an MCP client configuration.

`SHARECUT_API_KEY` is optional. Leave it unset for the three free tools. API access is part of ShareCut’s Business plan, and the key is created by a person through ShareCut’s profile page; the README says there is no programmatic sign-up. `SHARECUT_MCP_URL` can point the bridge at a different deployment.

## Tools and capabilities

- `create_qr` renders a URL or text as SVG, or returns a PNG data URL when requested. An optional hexadecimal color is supported.

- `list_links`, `get_link`, and `get_link_qr` support link discovery, metadata lookup, and retrieval of saved QR artwork.
- `get_link_analytics` reports time-based clicks and dimensions including country, device, operating system, browser, and referrer.
- `delete_link` permanently removes a link after an explicit confirmation and releases its short code.
- `get_account` reports the plan, entitlements, and remaining monthly API quota.

## Limitations and notes

Static QR codes cannot be redirected after printing; redirect management requires a short link. Bulk creation is limited to 25 links per call. Deletion is permanent, and the tool requires an explicit `confirm` value. Account tools operate on the account belonging to the supplied API key, while the key-free tools do not require an account.
