## Description
setlist.fm: concert setlists by artist/venue/date. Free key required.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **artist** — Fetch a setlist.fm artist record by band name or MusicBrainz ID. Pass `artist_name` ("Radiohead") and the name is resolved to the MBID for you, preferring an exact match so a tribute act does not answer for the band; pass `mbid` directly when you already have one. Returns artist name, MBID, Ticketmaster ID, sort name, and disambiguation info.
- **artist_search** — Search setlist.fm for artists by name, MusicBrainz ID, or Ticketmaster ID. Returns a paginated list of matching artist records with name, MBID, and sort name.
- **artist_setlists** — A band's concert history, newest first — use this for "what did Radiohead play at their most recent show". Pass `artist_name` and the band is resolved to its MusicBrainz ID for you, preferring an exact name match so a tribute act does not answer for the band; pass `mbid` directly when you have one. Returns setlists with date, venue, city, and full track lists.
- **venue** — Fetch a setlist.fm venue record by venue `id`. Returns venue name, city, country, coordinates, and URL.
- **venue_search** — Search setlist.fm for venues by name, city, country, or state. Returns a paginated list of matching venues with name, city, and country.
- **venue_setlists** — Fetch paginated setlists performed at a specific venue by venue `id`. Returns setlists with date, artist, and track lists.
- **setlist** — Fetch a single setlist by its setlist.fm `setlist_id`. Returns artist, event date, venue, city, and the full ordered track list with song names.
- **setlist_search** — Search setlist.fm setlists by artist name/MBID, date, year, city, country, state, tour name, or venue. Returns paginated matching setlists with artist, venue, date, and tracks.
- **user** — Fetch a setlist.fm user profile by `user_id`. Returns username, fullname, about text, website, and statistics on attended concerts.
- **user_attended** — Fetch paginated list of concerts a setlist.fm user has marked as attended, by `user_id`. Returns setlists with date, artist, venue, and track list.
- **cities** — Search setlist.fm for cities by name or country. Returns city name, state, country, and geolocation coordinates. Useful for resolving city identifiers before searching setlists or venues.
- **countries** — Return the full list of countries recognized by setlist.fm (ISO country codes and names). Use to look up valid country codes before filtering setlist or venue searches.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "setlist-fm": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@pipeworx/mcp-setlist-fm"],
    "env": {
      "PLATFORM_SETLISTFM_KEY": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `PLATFORM_SETLISTFM_KEY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What Setlist Fm MCP server does

The Setlist Fm MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI client access to concert data from setlist.fm. It covers artist records and searches, artist setlists, venue details and venue setlists, individual setlists, user profiles, attended shows, city searches, and the country list.

The underlying data source is the setlist.fm REST API at `https://api.setlist.fm/rest/1.0`. Queries can use identifiers such as MusicBrainz artist IDs, venue IDs, setlist IDs, and user IDs, or search fields such as artist name, venue name, city, country, year, date, state, and tour name.

## How it works

The package exposes the setlist.fm operations as MCP tools. An MCP client can discover the available schemas and call a specific operation with structured arguments. Search and list operations support a `p` argument for pagination where documented in the tool names.

The Setlist Fm MCP server can be reached in two ways. The hosted Pipeworx endpoint uses streamable HTTP and lists this pack's tools along with shared Pipeworx meta-tools. The standalone package communicates over stdin and stdout and lists only the setlist.fm tools. The hosted endpoint can also route broader questions through `ask_pipeworx`, while the local process does not provide that gateway routing.

## Setup and configuration

For the hosted option, add the Pipeworx endpoint to an MCP client:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "setlist-fm": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/setlist-fm/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

For local stdio use, configure the package through `npx`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "setlist-fm": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-setlist-fm"]
    }
  }
}
```

A free setlist.fm API key is required. The README identifies `PLATFORM_SETLISTFM_KEY` for platform authentication and also documents a BYO key passed as `?_apiKey=...`. The package can be started directly with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-setlist-fm` to verify that the local process launches.

## Tools and capabilities

The Setlist Fm MCP server provides these operations:

- Find artists by MusicBrainz ID, name, or other supported artist fields.
- Retrieve an artist or list an artist's setlists.
- Search venues and retrieve venue details or venue setlists.
- Search setlists by artist, year, date, location, tour, or venue.
- Retrieve one setlist by its ID.
- Retrieve a user profile or the shows attended by a user.
- Search cities and list countries.

The same operations are also available through the Pipeworx HTTP tools interface. For example, the hosted API can call an artist operation with a JSON POST request.

## Limitations and notes

The hosted pack endpoint includes shared Pipeworx tools in addition to the setlist.fm tools, so its `tools/list` response is larger than the pack's operation list. The exact scope is reported by the connection's `initialize` response. The local stdio mode avoids those shared tools but does not include gateway-wide routing.

This server depends on setlist.fm data and authentication. The project is licensed under MIT.
