## Description
RunAPI MCP server for Seedance: create tasks, poll status, check pricing.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **login** — Authenticate RunAPI by opening a browser PKCE login flow and saving the API key to ~/.config/runapi/config.json.
- **text_to_video** — Create a Seedance task on RunAPI (text to video). Returns a task id, status, and output URLs.
- **get_task** — Fetch the current status and latest result payload for a seedance task.
- **check_pricing** — Look up RunAPI pricing for the seedance model line.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "seedance-mcp": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@runapi.ai/seedance-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "RUNAPI_API_KEY": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `RUNAPI_API_KEY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What seedance-mcp does

seedance-mcp exposes the Seedance model line from RunAPI to MCP-compatible AI assistants. It focuses on video generation rather than exposing the broader RunAPI catalog, covering seven Seedance model variants through one endpoint. Supported text-to-video models include `seedance-1.5-pro`, `seedance-2-mini`, `seedance-2.0`, `seedance-2.0-fast`, `seedance-2.5`, `seedance-v1-pro`, and `seedance-v1-pro-fast`.

The package is a suitable choice when an agent should create Seedance video jobs, monitor asynchronous processing, and inspect pricing before submitting work.

## How it works

The server communicates with the MCP host over standard input and output. An assistant can call `check_pricing` without authentication, then submit a video generation request with `text_to_video`. Creation returns a task ID, status, and output URLs when available. The create operation can either wait for a terminal status or return without waiting.

For jobs submitted asynchronously, `get_task` retrieves the latest status and payload using the task ID. Model availability may change between package releases, so pricing lookup or the Seedance model page can be used to inspect the available catalog.

## Setup and configuration

Install the package through the npm command used by your MCP client:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "seedance": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@runapi.ai/seedance-mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

Claude Code can add the server with `claude mcp add seedance -s user -- npx -y @runapi.ai/seedance-mcp`. Project scope is also available when a repository should share the configuration. The same stdio command works with Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Roo Code, and other MCP hosts.

Authentication is resolved in this order:

1. `RUNAPI_API_KEY`
2. `~/.config/runapi/config.json`
3. No credential, which permits pricing lookup only

The MCP login flow or `runapi login` can create the configuration file. Headless environments can set `RUNAPI_API_KEY` before starting the MCP host. A pre-provisioned configuration file may contain an `apiKey` field. Keep credentials out of source control.

## Tools and capabilities

- `text_to_video`: submits a Seedance text-to-video task and can wait for completion or return immediately.
- `get_task`: checks an existing task and returns its current status with the latest payload.
- `check_pricing`: retrieves pricing for a Seedance model and endpoint without requiring authentication.

These tools support workflows that first compare pricing, then create a task and either collect the resulting URLs or poll the task later.

## Limitations and notes

The server is scoped to Seedance and one RunAPI endpoint, so it is not intended for discovering or operating the complete RunAPI catalog. Creating tasks and polling their status require authentication, while pricing inspection does not. Model availability can change between releases. Do not commit API keys or other credentials stored in the RunAPI configuration.
