## Documentation

## What Scamchecker.nl MCP server does

Scamchecker.nl MCP server provides an MCP interface for checking potentially fraudulent communications. Its single tool, `check_message`, accepts suspicious message text, a link, or a description of a screenshot. It covers common cases such as phishing emails, fake delivery notifications, WhatsApp messages from an unknown number, and links that imitate a bank or other brand.

The response includes a verdict, a summary of the assessment, the scam signals detected, the brand being impersonated when one is identified, and advice about what to do next. The service is focused on scam patterns affecting people in the Netherlands and Belgium, so it is most relevant for Dutch- and Belgian-targeted messages.

## How it works

The server is available remotely at `https://scamchecker.nl/mcp` and uses Streamable HTTP transport. An MCP-compatible client sends the material to `check_message`, and the tool returns a structured assessment that the assistant can explain to the user.

Example inputs include a parcel SMS asking for a small payment, a WhatsApp message claiming to be from a family member with a new phone number, or a bank-looking URL. A result with no detected red flags is not a guarantee that the message is safe; the service states this limitation in its answers.

## Setup and configuration

Scamchecker.nl MCP server does not require local installation or a build step. Add the remote URL as an HTTP MCP server in a compatible client. Claude users can add it as a custom connector, while Claude Code can use an HTTP transport command. Cursor, VS Code, Cline, and Windsurf can add the endpoint to their MCP configuration; Cline uses the `streamableHttp` type.

The hosted endpoint does not require an account for ordinary use. Automations can request a free API key and send it as an `Authorization: Bearer sc_...` header. Each key is limited to 20 checks per 10 minutes and 100 checks per day. No required environment variables are documented.

## Tools and capabilities

- `check_message`: assess suspicious text, a URL, or a screenshot description.
- Identify scam signals in emails, SMS messages, WhatsApp messages, and links.
- Report a verdict, summary, warning signals, possible impersonated brand, and advice.
- Support checks for scam scenarios aimed at users in the Netherlands and Belgium.

## Limitations and notes

Scamchecker.nl MCP server is an assessment aid, not proof that a message is legitimate. The absence of reported red flags does not establish safety. The provided material documents one tool only, and it does not describe local hosting or a self-managed deployment. For automated use, API-key rate limits apply, while the hosted endpoint can be used without an account for standard connections.

The service is intended for suspicious communication and link checks rather than general-purpose security analysis. Developers should also consider how message content, URLs, or screenshot descriptions are handled when integrating the remote endpoint into an automated workflow.
