## What saroday-mcp-server MCP server does

The saroday-mcp-server MCP server gives an AI client access to Saroday’s Korean Saju and myeongni-hak services. It is intended for applications that need structured Four Pillars data, Korean fortune-telling terminology, or daily fortune results through the Model Context Protocol.

Its primary calculation tool accepts a birth date, time, and gender, then returns a broad Saju analysis. The response can include the eight characters, sipseong, sinsal, hapchung, 12-unseong, yongshin, and daeun. This keeps calendar and solar-term boundary calculations on the Saroday service instead of asking the language model to reproduce them.

The glossary tool covers more than 80 myeongni-hak terms, including concepts such as 도화살, 천을귀인, 식신, and 육합. Entries provide Korean explanations. A separate daily-fortune tool supports the 12 Western zodiac signs and the 12 Chinese zodiac signs, while the discovery tool lists Saroday API endpoints and metadata.

## How it works

The package runs locally as an MCP process and communicates with the client over stdio. When the client invokes a tool, the adapter sends an HTTPS request to Saroday. Saroday performs the Saju calculation or retrieves the requested information, then returns JSON through the adapter to the AI client.

The package is a thin connection layer; the calculation and glossary data live on Saroday’s servers. This means changes to the remote algorithm or content can become available without upgrading the local package. Daily fortune responses are cached server-side.

The public Saroday API has a free-use limit of 100 requests per hour for each IP address.

## Setup and configuration

The saroday-mcp-server MCP server requires Node.js 18 or newer. You can run it without a global installation with `npx @saroday/mcp-server`, install it globally with npm and run `saroday-mcp`, or clone the repository, install dependencies, and start `node index.js`.

For Claude Desktop, add an MCP entry that uses `npx` with the `-y` argument and the package name, then restart the application. Cline, Cursor, and other clients with stdio support can point to the `saroday-mcp` executable or to `node index.js`; their configuration syntax varies by client.

Set `SARODAY_API_BASE` to replace the default `https://saroday.com` API base. This is useful for a staging or self-hosted endpoint, where supported by that deployment. No other environment variables are documented.

## Tools and capabilities

- `calculate_saju` calculates a full Saju result from birth information.
- `lookup_glossary` retrieves explanations for supported myeongni-hak terms.
- `get_daily_fortune` returns today’s fortune for a Western or Chinese zodiac sign.

## Limitations and notes

The saroday-mcp-server MCP server depends on the Saroday API for its calculations and content, so it is not a standalone local manse-ryeok implementation. Network access to the configured API base is required. Free public API usage is limited to 100 requests per hour per IP, which may restrict high-volume applications.

The documented transport is stdio. The README names Claude Desktop, Cline, and Cursor as compatible clients and does not document client-specific features beyond MCP stdio support. The project is released under the MIT license.
