## Documentation

## What RegAI Legal MCP (Taiwan) does

RegAI Legal MCP (Taiwan) provides a hosted, read-only interface to Taiwan legal materials through the Model Context Protocol. It covers laws and regulations from the Ministry of Justice national law database, including effective-status information and pending amendments. Its decision collection includes selected Judicial Yuan courts: the Supreme Court, Supreme Administrative Court, Constitutional Court, Disciplinary Court, and Intellectual Property and Commercial Court.

The service also exposes all 813 Council of Grand Justices Interpretations and Constitutional Court judgments from 2022 onward. These materials are returned through the decision search tools alongside court decisions. The repository contains documentation, registry metadata, and examples; the service implementation is hosted and is not published in the repository.

## How it works

Clients connect to the Streamable HTTP endpoint at `https://mcp.regai.tw/mcp`. The tools query public legal data and are annotated as read-only. Law names and queries are in Traditional Chinese, although an assistant can translate a user’s English request before calling the tools. An article lookup can optionally include an official English translation when one exists.

Authentication supports OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, which is the recommended approach, and API-key authentication for applications that cannot use sign-in. OAuth users authenticate with a RegAI account and authorize the client. API keys can be supplied as a bearer header or as a `key` URL parameter.

## Setup and configuration

Add the hosted endpoint as a custom MCP connector in a compatible assistant. In Claude Code, the documented command is:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http regai https://mcp.regai.tw/mcp
```

Claude users can also connect through the RegAI entry in Claude’s connector directory. Other clients can use the same endpoint and complete the OAuth sign-in flow if supported. API-key users obtain a key from the RegAI account page and provide it using one of the supported methods.

The service has free and paid usage plans. The documented free plan allows 500 calls per month, with a burst limit of 20 and refills five times per hour. Each tool call counts toward the limit; connecting and listing tools do not.

## Tools and capabilities

RegAI Legal MCP (Taiwan) includes these capabilities:

- Search law articles by concept, keyword, or article reference.
- Resolve partial or complete law names to official names.
- Retrieve an exact article by law and number, optionally with official English.
- View a law’s chapter, section, and article structure.
- Retrieve an entire law as Markdown.
- Search selected court decisions by concept, fact pattern, or keyword, ranked by relevance.
- Find every decision containing specified literal phrase(s), with an exact result count.
- Retrieve a complete decision by its identifier, including identifiers for constitutional interpretations and judgments.
- Search Grand Chamber rulings that address divergent legal interpretations.

## Limitations and notes

RegAI Legal MCP (Taiwan) is intended for research and does not provide legal advice. The decision dataset does not include district or high court decisions. Constitutional Court opinions and case files are provided as links rather than extracted content. Data is updated periodically from official sources, so users should verify the current status of important legal materials.

The service is operated by RegAI.tw and is not affiliated with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice or Judicial Yuan. Queries use public legal data, and the documentation states that query content is not logged, although a keyed fingerprint may be retained for troubleshooting. The repository documentation and examples are licensed under CC BY 4.0; the hosted service is governed by RegAI’s terms.
