- **get_time_series** — Weekly (or daily) history for **one** `source` + `keyword`. Same name on MCP and REST (`mode: "get_time_series"`). REST also accepts `get_trends` as an alias.

## What Reddit Trends MCP MCP server does

Reddit Trends MCP provides agent-accessible trend data through the Model Context Protocol. Its three tools cover distinct research tasks: `get_time_series` returns historical values for one keyword on one source, `get_growth` calculates point-to-point percentage changes, and `get_top_trends` returns a live ranked feed without requiring a keyword.

The service is centered on Reddit trend data, but the underlying TrendsMCP API supports a catalog of sources. The `source` argument identifies the source used by a query, and keyword formats depend on that source. This makes the server suitable for trend checks that need a consistent tool interface rather than custom scraping code.

## How it works

The hosted MCP endpoint is `https://api.trendsmcp.ai/mcp`. Requests use a Bearer API key. The same key can also authenticate REST requests at `https://api.trendsmcp.ai/api`; the REST operation for historical data is `get_time_series`, with `get_trends` accepted as an alias.

`get_time_series` requires both `keyword` and `source`, and processes one source-keyword pair per call. Results use a 0–100 index where the data pipeline supports it, with 100 representing the peak in the returned period. A `volume` series is included when the selected source provides absolute volume data. Weekly data is the default, while daily data is available through the REST API.

`get_growth` also requires a keyword and source. It accepts multiple comparison windows in one call, including presets such as `7D`, `30D`, `6M`, `12M`, `1Y`, and `5Y`, or custom recent and baseline dates. A comma-separated source list can be used for comparisons across sources.

`get_top_trends` is for current rankings and does not take a keyword. In MCP calls, `type` is required and must exactly match the feed name, including capitalization. Optional pagination, category, result limit, and ranking-change settings refine the returned feed.

## Setup and configuration

Create an API key through the TrendsMCP account page before making paid data calls. The README identifies a free allowance of 100 requests per month. For the hosted connection, configure the MCP client with the endpoint and an `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY` header.

The repository also includes a Python stdio adapter. Install the project, run `python -m trends_mcp_server`, and provide the key through `TRENDSMCP_API_KEY`. The adapter can list tools without a key, but data calls require authentication and use the same quota. Claude Desktop can use `mcp-remote` to bridge the hosted HTTP endpoint because it does not provide native HTTP MCP support.

Each historical or growth query is scoped to a source and keyword. `get_top_trends` uses feed names rather than keywords, and MCP requires the exact `type` value. On REST, leaving `type` out requests every feed and is billed per feed. Some live-feed categories are required for particular feed types, including Amazon, Google Trends, Top Websites, Substack, and TikTok hashtag boards.

The Reddit Trends MCP MCP server does not require clients to scrape data locally, but access still depends on the TrendsMCP API key and its quota. The README names Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, and VS Code quick-install paths, plus manual configurations for Claude Code, Windsurf, Cline, and Claude Desktop; ChatGPT is not represented in the directory's compatible-client slug list.
