## Description
Ask your AI what something costs right now, track price drops and get told when a target price is hit. All data stays local.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **price_check** — Fetch a page now; returns price, currency, title, extraction confidence and the change against the last stored observation for that URL. No watch needed.
- **watch_add** — Start tracking a URL. Stores the first observation. Optional `label`, `target_price`, `currency`.
- **watch_list** — Every watch with current price, min, max, change, target, confidence and source.
- **watch_remove** — Stop tracking, by `id` or `url`.
- **watch_refresh** — Re-fetch one watch (`id`) or all of them (`all: true`); appends observations and returns current, previous, min, max, change % and target-hit flags. This is the only thing that checks prices.
- **price_history** — Stored observations for one watch, oldest first, optional `limit`.
- **price_add_manual** — Record a price you read yourself, for shops that block bots. Creates the watch if needed.
- **alerts_pending** — Watches whose latest price is at or below target, or which dropped 5% or more since the previous observation. Free.
- **license_status** — Free or Pro, and where to upgrade.
- **license_activate** — Activate a Pro key. Verified offline.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "price-tracker": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@theluckystrike/mcp-price-tracker"],
    "env": {
      "MCP_LICENSE_KEY": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `MCP_LICENSE_KEY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What price tracker does

The price tracker MCP server connects an MCP client to ordinary online shop pages. It can fetch a product page, identify its title, price, and currency, and compare the result with a previously stored observation for the same URL. A one-time `price_check` does not require creating a watch.

For ongoing tracking, `watch_add` saves a URL and its first observation. A watch can include a label, target price, and currency. Stored data includes current, minimum, and maximum prices, percentage changes, extraction confidence, and the source used to find the price. Data is kept in a JSON file on the local machine when running from source or the desktop bundle.

## How it works

The price tracker MCP server extracts values in a defined order. It checks product and offer data in JSON-LD, price-related microdata, Open Graph metadata, and then visible page text when structured data is unavailable. Results identify extraction confidence and source, so an agent can distinguish a structured result from a lower-confidence fallback.

`watch_refresh` is the only operation that fetches new prices for watches. It can refresh one watch by ID or all watches with `all: true`, then appends observations and reports current and previous values, range data, percentage change, and target-hit status. `alerts_pending` evaluates the latest stored observations: it reports watches at or below their target or those that fell by at least 5 percent.

There is no background scheduler or daemon. A watch records history but does not automatically poll a page. Refresh watches during a session, or use the supplied `check_prices` prompt to refresh and summarize changes. The `prices://watches` resource exposes the current watch list as JSON.

## Setup and configuration

Hosted use requires no local installation. Obtain a token from the supplied MCP connection endpoint, then connect to the streamable HTTP URL with an `Authorization: Bearer <token>` header. Clients that cannot set headers can place the token in the URL path instead. Calls without a token receive an unauthorized response.

For local use, download the `price-tracker.mcpb` bundle and open it in Claude Desktop, or clone the repository and run `npm install` followed by `npm run build`. Configure the client to launch `node` with the absolute path to `dist/index.js`. The README says the package is not yet published to npm, so the documented `npx` configurations should not be treated as currently available; use the bundle, hosted endpoint, or source build instead.

Set `MCP_LICENSE_KEY` in the client configuration for Pro mode, or activate a key through `license_activate`. License verification is performed offline.

## Tools and capabilities

- `price_check`: Fetch one page and return price, currency, title, confidence, source, and change from the last stored observation.
- `watch_add`, `watch_list`, and `watch_remove`: Create, inspect, or delete URL watches.
- `watch_refresh`: Fetch one watch or all eligible watches and append observations.
- `price_history`: Return observations for a watch in oldest-first order, with an optional limit.
- `price_add_manual`: Record a price yourself when a shop blocks automated requests; it can create the watch if needed.
- `alerts_pending`: Report stored target-price hits and drops of at least 5 percent.
- `license_status` and `license_activate`: Inspect plan status and activate a Pro key.

## Limitations and notes

Automatic fetching may fail when a retailer blocks bots. In that case, manual price entry preserves the history but does not fetch the page. Alerts are reports based on stored data, not push notifications or scheduled checks.

The free tier allows three watches, keeps the last 30 observations per watch, and does not support refreshing all watches at once. The README lists unlimited watches and full per-watch history for Pro, along with all-watch refresh. `price_check`, `alerts_pending`, single-watch refresh, and manual entries are available in the free tier.
