## What Outscraper MCP Server MCP server does

Outscraper MCP Server MCP server connects MCP-compatible clients to Outscraper’s API. Its tools cover business discovery, company and contact enrichment, Google Maps places, reviews and photos, chain detection, search providers, review platforms, phone enrichment, and structured extraction from a single page.

The tool set includes `businesses_search` and `businesses_get` for finding and enriching business records. Google Maps workflows use tools such as `google_maps_search`, `google_maps_reviews`, `google_maps_photos`, and `chain_info`. Other sources include Yellow Pages, Booking, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Trustpilot, Indeed, Google Search, and Google Images.

Company-focused operations include `company_insights`, `emails_and_contacts`, `emails_validator`, and `phones_enricher`. `ai_scraper` extracts structured information from one page. `balance_get` checks the Outscraper account balance, while `requests_get`, `requests_list`, and `requests_delete` manage asynchronous request lifecycles.

## How it works

An MCP client calls a tool exposed by the local or hosted server. The server authenticates with Outscraper, forwards the request to the corresponding API endpoint, and returns a common result structure containing `data` and `meta` fields. Asynchronous responses can also include a request ID, status, results location, and a suggested next action.

Async-capable tools accept `execution_mode` values of `auto`, `sync`, or `async`. The older boolean `async` option remains accepted, but `execution_mode` takes precedence. A typical workflow can search for businesses, enrich a selected record, submit a longer-running collection task, and then poll its status with `requests_get`.

The server supports local stdio communication and HTTP deployment. Hosted HTTP mode can authenticate with request headers or, for connector-style deployments, an API key in the `/v1/mcp/<api-key>` path. Stateful HTTP/SSE sessions are stored in process memory, so a single instance or sticky-session arrangement is more suitable than unrestricted horizontal scaling.

## Setup and configuration

Install and run the package through npm:

For a local MCP client, configure `npx` as the command, pass `-y` and `outscraper-mcp` as arguments, and provide `OUTSCRAPER_API_KEY` in the client environment. The process also loads `.env` at startup. On Windows, clients that cannot resolve `npx` may need the full path to `npx.cmd`.

For Streamable HTTP, set `HTTP_STREAMABLE_SERVER=true` and configure `HOST` and `PORT`; the MCP endpoint is `/mcp`. Hosted authentication requires `CLOUD_SERVICE=true`. HTTP callers can send `Authorization: Bearer`, `X-API-KEY`, or `X-OUTSCRAPER-API-KEY`.

## Limitations and notes

Outscraper MCP Server MCP server is not intended for browser automation, multi-step user-interface interaction, generic OAuth SaaS connections, arbitrary document search, or crawling sessions that depend on a persistent browser. The available data surface is defined by Outscraper’s supported endpoints.

API usage requires an Outscraper API key. URL-based hosted authentication is convenient for clients that cannot send custom headers, but header authentication is preferable for server-to-server use. Stateful HTTP sessions reside in process memory, which affects deployment choices when running multiple instances.
