Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **opplev_discover** — Search experiences by structured filters: `fylke` (county), `kommune` (municipality), `category`, `indoor_outdoor`, `weather`, `season`, `group_size`, `age`, `max_price`, `duration_max`, `language`, `limit`. Returns ranked experiences with place, category, duration, price and a booking link.
- **opplev_info** — Get the full profile for one experience by `id` (UUID) — description, place, season, duration, group size, age suitability, price, languages, accessibility, meeting point and booking link.
- **opplev_categories** — List all experience categories with the count of published experiences in each.

## What opplevagent-mcp MCP server does

The opplevagent-mcp MCP server exposes Opplevagent’s Norwegian experience catalog to MCP-compatible clients. It is intended for finding tours, courses, activities, and other things to do across Norway. Search results can be narrowed by county, municipality, category, indoor or outdoor setting, weather, season, group size, age, maximum price, maximum duration, language, and result count.

Returned discovery results include the experience name and practical details such as location, category, duration, price, and a booking URL. A separate lookup tool provides the fuller record for a known experience, including its description, meeting point, accessibility information, languages, age suitability, and booking link.

## How it works

The opplevagent-mcp MCP server is a thin, read-only wrapper around Opplevagent’s public discovery API. Its available data sources include the experience REST endpoints at `https://opplevagent.no/api/opplevelser` and the discovery endpoint at `https://opplevagent.no/api/opplevelser/discover`. The service also publishes an agent card, an OpenAPI document, and a remote Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint.

The server does not create bookings, modify listings, or require authentication. Results are queried from the public API when an MCP client invokes a tool. The experience lookup expects an individual experience identifier in UUID format.

## Setup and configuration

Install and run the package with:

For Claude Desktop, add an `opplevagent` entry to the MCP server configuration and use `npx` as the command with `opplevagent-mcp` as its argument. The configuration location is `~/.claude/claude_desktop_config.json` on macOS and Linux, or `%APPDATA%\\Claude\\claude_desktop_config.json` on Windows. Restart Claude Desktop after saving the change.

No API key is needed. The `OPPLEVAGENT_URL` environment variable defaults to `https://opplevagent.no` and can be changed when pointing the client at another instance, such as a staging environment.

## Tools and capabilities

- `opplev_discover` searches the catalog using structured filters for geography, activity category, conditions, timing, participant details, price, duration, language, and result limit. It returns ranked experiences and booking links.
- `opplev_info` retrieves a complete profile by UUID, including description, place, season, duration, group size, age suitability, price, languages, accessibility, meeting point, and booking link.
- `opplev_categories` lists the available experience categories and the number of published experiences in each category.

Categories include culture and history, sightseeing and transport, adrenaline and action, wildlife and safari, winter and snow, nature and outdoors, accommodation experiences, wellness and spa, and food and drink.

## Limitations and notes

The opplevagent-mcp MCP server is read-only and depends on the public Opplevagent API. It does not expose booking actions or authenticated account features. Its scope is Norwegian experiences and activities, so it is not a general travel-booking interface. Search quality and availability depend on the records published by Opplevagent.

The package can be used from Claude Desktop, Cursor, or another MCP client that supports the standard process configuration. The repository is distributed under the MIT license.
