## Description
Guidelines for UI components with a perfect UX, DX and AX, whether humans or AI agents write them.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Remote MCP endpoint (confidence: high). Install path detected from listing signals. Add as a URL/SSE server in your client:

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "open-components": {
    "url": "https://mcp.opencomponents.dev/mcp"
## Documentation
## What Open Components MCP server does
Open Components MCP server gives AI agents access to the Open Components standard for UI components. The standard evaluates components across three areas: user experience, developer experience, and agentic experience. Its guidance covers accessibility, predictable behavior, consistent and type-safe APIs, composability, semantic descriptions, deterministic behavior, and verifiable output.
The server is intended for agents that need structured guidance while creating or reviewing components. Rather than requiring an agent to process the entire documentation site, it exposes contracts, the rules contained in those contracts, and documentation one section at a time.
## How it works
The service is hosted at `https://mcp.opencomponents.dev/mcp`. An MCP-compatible client connects to that endpoint and can request the standard's content through the server's tools. No sign-in is required, and the README describes the service as free to use.
The underlying project publishes several machine-readable resources. Markdown files provide individual documentation pages, YAML files provide page contracts and their checklists, and a JSON Schema describes the contract format. The MCP interface is the agent-oriented way to retrieve the contracts, rules, and documentation sections; these web resources remain available for direct reading or validation.
## Setup and configuration
Add the remote endpoint `https://mcp.opencomponents.dev/mcp` to an MCP-compatible client using that client's normal remote-server configuration. The repository does not document required environment variables, API keys, authentication steps, or local installation requirements for the server endpoint.
The project also offers an agent plugin in `plugins/open-components`. That plugin connects to the same server and adds skills for building and reviewing components, but it is a separate installation option rather than a requirement for using the MCP server.
## Tools and capabilities
The Open Components MCP server exposes the following kinds of content as tools:
- Component contracts that describe requirements in a concise, structured form.
- The individual rules and checklist items contained in those contracts.
- Documentation sections covering the Open Components standard.
- Guidance spanning UX, DX, and AX expectations for UI components.
The project also provides supporting resources outside MCP. `llms.txt` lists the available pages and contracts, while `llms-full.txt` contains the complete standard in one file. Agents and editors can use the published contract schema to validate contracts, including custom contracts that follow the same format.
## Limitations and notes
The provided material does not list named MCP tool methods, input schemas, response formats, rate limits, or versioning guarantees. It also does not claim that the remote server can modify repositories, generate files, run tests, or inspect a local codebase. Those tasks may be supported by the separate agent plugin's skills, but they should not be assumed for the MCP endpoint alone.
The repository uses different licenses for different materials: the site code is MIT-licensed, while the guidelines and agent plugin are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. The materials provided do not identify a separate license for the hosted MCP service itself.
