- **get_track** — Details for one track
- **get_preview_url** — Audition link for a track
- **list_license_tiers** — Live prices: Social Media, TV + Streaming, Film

- **get_license_checkout_link** — The license page pre-filled with the track, plus the steps to finish

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `uvx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "no-license-nearby": {
    "command": "uvx",
    "args": ["nolicense-nearby-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "NOLICENSE_API_BASE": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `NOLICENSE_API_BASE` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What No License Nearby does

The No License Nearby MCP server exposes the public No License Nearby sync-licensing catalog through MCP. The catalog contains more than 880 tracks, with search filters for title, genre, mood, energy, and musical key. Filters can be combined to narrow results for a particular production or creative brief.

The catalog is described as artist-owned: the artist retains all master rights and publishing shares for each track. This means the listed license is intended to clear both sides of the music rights through one purchase. The available use categories are Social Media, TV + Streaming, and Film.

## How it works

An MCP client sends tool calls to the local server, which reads information from the public catalog. Track searches return candidates, while `get_track` provides details for a selected item. `get_preview_url` supplies an audition link so a user can listen before deciding.

Pricing is read live rather than stored as fixed values in the server. `list_license_tiers` shows current prices for the available usage categories, and `quote_license` calculates a quote for one or more tracks, including the catalog's multi-track discount. After a track is chosen, `get_license_checkout_link` returns a license page with the track already selected and instructions for completing the process.

The No License Nearby MCP server does not submit license requests and does not process payments. The buyer completes the purchase on the No License Nearby website, where usage rights become active after payment.

## Setup and configuration

Install the package with:

```bash
pip install nolicense-nearby-mcp
```

Alternatively, run it without installing the package locally:

```bash
uvx nolicense-nearby-mcp
```

A stdio client can launch it with this configuration:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "nolicense": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["nolicense-nearby-mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

Claude Code can add the server with `claude mcp add nolicense -- uvx nolicense-nearby-mcp`. The optional `NOLICENSE_API_BASE` variable changes the catalog base URL; by default, the server uses `https://license.nomusicnearby.com`. No API key is required.

## Tools and capabilities

- `search_tracks`: Find tracks by title, genre, mood, energy, and musical key.
- `get_track`: Retrieve information about one track.
- `get_preview_url`: Return an audition URL.
- `list_license_tiers`: Show live prices for Social Media, TV + Streaming, and Film.
- `quote_license`: Price one or multiple tracks and apply the multi-track discount.
- `get_license_checkout_link`: Create a pre-filled license-page link and provide completion steps.

## Limitations and notes

The No License Nearby MCP server uses read-only catalog tools. It does not complete checkout, submit a license request, or activate rights. Those actions take place on the linked website after payment.

Tempo filtering is not available because tempo information is still being added to the catalog. The server therefore cannot search directly by BPM or tempo. Prices should be treated as live catalog values rather than hardcoded data, so agents should retrieve current tiers or generate a current quote when discussing cost.
